  • Physiological maturation, reproductive patterns, and female fecundability in a traditional Moroccan population (Amizmiz, Marrakech)

Open Access•Carlos Varea, C Bernis et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•1993

The interaction between age at menarche, adolescent motherhood, and subfecundity were evaluated in 496 Moroccan women 25–54 years of age from the province of Marrakech. Since this population is characterized by later sexual maturation and early marriage, significantly increased subfecundity, measured by the waiting time to first live birth and the incidence of fetal loss, was expected. Menstrual age was defined as the difference between age at ma…

  • The pattern of reproductive life in a Berber population of morocco

    Emile Crognier, C Bernis et al.•ARTICLE•Biodemography and Social Biology•1993•Cited by: 1•References: 7

Reproductive patterns were studied from data collected in 1,450 Berber households in the province of Marrakesh, Morocco in 1984. Women aged 45-49 years had a mean of 8.9 pregnancies to achieve 5.7 living children. Social influences on fertility rates show the importance of tradition, particularly through time-dependent variables such as age at marriage, waiting time to first birth, interbirth intervals, and duration of breastfeeding. Birth contro…

  • Age at menarche

    Open Access•Silvia Elizondo•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1992

Longitudinal growth data from 120 schoolgirls of an homogeneous French population (canton of Chateauponsac, Central France) were analysed to obtain information concerning the onset of menarche. Following Ellison's methods (1982) on an American population, the study aimed to compare both samples in order to observe if they behaved in a similar way

  • Conceptions and strategies of research in anthropobiology from the 1950s to the 1980s, through Jean Hiernaux's publications

    Open Access•Emile Crognier, Silvia Elizondo•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1989•References: 9

    J. Hiernaux's career in anthropobiology, expresses the changes which occured in the disciplines since the 50s. The substitution of the populationist approach to the former typological study of variation, the question of human races reconsidered in this new scope through the computation of biological distances and by the use of numerical taxonomy, the endeavour of the IBP and its yields in human adaptability, and finally the recent subdisciplinary…
