  • Conflicting Messages From Weak and Strong Sustainability Metrics

    Open Access•Arkaitz Usubiaga‐Liaño, Miroslav Syrovátka et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Development•2026•Referências: 9

Weak and strong sustainability represent two opposing ways of understanding sustainability. This is reflected in the metrics used to monitor both types of sustainability, where the former favours monetary aggregates of manufactured, human, and natural capital, while the latter favours biophysical indicators. A comparison of the outcomes of weak and strong sustainability metrics leads to conflicting messages between the two paradigms when assessin…

  • Below-Median Development Indicators

Open Access•Tina Pourpakdelfekr, Miroslav Syrovátka et al.•ARTICLE•Social Indicators Research•2026•Referências: 3

Striving for inclusive development requires looking beyond national averages to the outcomes of those who are being left behind. This paper introduces a flexible class of below-median development indicators and demonstrates the idea with the Human Development Index (HDI). We re-engineer the HDI into a Below-median Human Development Index (BHDI), computing bottom-half (BHDI-50) and bottom-quartile (BHDI-25) scores for 117 countries. The new index …

  • Aid allocation across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus

Open Access•Kazuma Yabe, Zdeněk Opršal et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2024

Fragility continues to present major challenges to achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs). International aid, particularly the Official Development Assistance (ODA), is a critical source of finance to deliver humanitarian assistance, development projects, and peace operations in fragile contexts. This study analyses if and how donors are motivated by fragility in their aid allocation across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus. Employ…

    Open Access•Jaromír Harmáček, Miroslav Syrovátka et al.•ARTICLE•Politická ekonomie•2017•Citada por: 1•Referências: 23

The aim of our paper is to identify factors that influence the territorial selection and allocation of development aid of the Czech Republic. We applied random-effects probit and tobit models in our regression analysis which revealed that flows of Czech aid to individual developing countries are determined by variety of factors. Czech interests and mutual relations were mostly identified as statistically significant determinants, namely export vo…

  • Measuring Pro-Poor Growth

    Open Access•Jaromír Harmáček, Miroslav Syrovátka et al.•ARTICLE•Politická ekonomie•2016•Citada por: 1•Referências: 16

The paper analyzes the theory and construction of four indicators of pro-poor growth and applies them to Bangladesh over two time periods, 2000-2005 and 2005-2010. The following indicators were used: pro-poor growth index (Kakwani and Pernia, 2000), poverty equivalent growth rate (Kakwani and Son, 2008), poverty growth curve (Son, 2004), and the rate of pro-poor growth (Ravallion and Chen, 2003). Applied to Bangladesh, the results of the four ind…
