  • Evaluating the Data Quality of a National Sample of Young Sexual and Gender Minorities Recruited Using Social Media: The Influence of Different Design Formats

    Open Access•Michael J Stern, Michael Stern et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science Computer Review•2020•References: 12

Social media recruitment is no longer an uncharted avenue for survey research. The results thus far provide evidence of an engaging means of recruiting hard-to-reach populations. Questions remain, however, regarding whether the data collected using this method of recruitment produce quality data. This article assesses one aspect that may influence the quality of data gathered through nonprobability sampling using social media advertisements for a…

    Open Access•J A Schneider, J Schneider et al.•ARTICLE•Network Science•2017•Cited by: 10•References: 8

Critical to the development of improved HIV elimination efforts is a greater understanding of how social networks and their dynamics are related to HIV risk and prevention. In this paper, we examine network stability of confidant and sexual networks among young black men who have sex with men (YBMSM). We use data from uConnect (2013–2016), a population-based, longitudinal cohort study. We use an innovative approach to measure both sexual and conf…

Objectives. We evaluated network mixing and influences by network members upon Black men who have sex with men. Methods. We conducted separate social and sexual network mixing analyses to determine the degree of mixing on risk behaviors (e.g., unprotected anal intercourse [UAI]). We used logistic regression to assess the association between a network “enabler” (would not disapprove of the respondent’s behavior) and respondent behavior. Results. A…

  • A comparative study of the couple in the social organization of sexuality in France and the United States

John H Gagnon, Alain Giami et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sex Research•2001•Cited by: 6•References: 4

This study presents the results of a comparative analysis of two national surveys of sexual behavior of adults ages 18 to 59 living in France and in the United States. While persons living in a couple in the two countries are quite similar, controlling for gender, age, and relationship status points to a number of important differences among those who are not living in a couple. Among these individuals, the French are more likely to be monogamous…

The gender, racial, age, and regional composition of the set of PWAs reported by GSS respondents is compared with that of the official AIDS cases reported to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
