Using e-modules for acquisition of complex diabetes skills in diabetes care providers in Rwanda
Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is life-threatening without appropriate treatment. Though pediatric endocrinology care is limited in Rwanda, a decentralized health system allows access to local non-communicable disease (NCD) nurses through a network of 42 district hospitals. Recent rapid expansion of internet access in the country makes virtual diabetes education initiatives possible. We investigated whether Rwandan NCD nurses receiving diabetes education …
It Is Time to Reclaim Our Lands and Data: Steps for Ethically Engaged Environmental Research with Indigenous Communities
Indigenous communities have shaped the health of landscapes through reciprocal and relational stewardship of their lands and resources since time immemorial. Colonization has caused harm to Indigenous-shaped lands and the hands that have tended them. Indigenous communities must be recentered as experts through a pathway that embraces justice, equity, and sovereignty to address today’s pressing environmental problems. Scientific research, in parti…
The associations between dietary practices and dietary quality, biological health indicators, perceived stress, religiosity, culture, and gender in multicultural Singapore
Background: Dietary quality, biological health, culture, religiosity, and perceived stress are co-related. However, there is a dearth of research conducted on Asian populations in secularized and harmonious multicultural societies. Methods: This study addresses these gaps by conducting an investigation in the multicultural and multireligious Singapore to examine the parameters of culture and gender and the associations with (1) dietary quality, (…
Overcoming Obstacles: African American Students with Disabilities Achieving Academic Success
The purpose of this study was to investigate African American high school students with high incidence disabilities who academically successful. This article tells their story, how they overcame obstacles to reach their academic potential. It includes a discussion of* the overrepresentation of minorities in special education,* African Americans and special education,* teacher beliefs and expectations,* parent and family involvement,* student perc…
Radiant Energy During Clear Weather in the Growing Season at Poste-de-la-Baleine (Great Whale), Nouveau-Québec
In a previous article, regression coefficients were determined for the major surface types during clear weather at Poste-de-la-Baleine, to permit estimates of net radiation given the incoming solar radiation. In the present complementary study : (i) a curve is set up to provide a quick estimate of the incoming solar radiation fluxes ini clear weather ; (ii) daily coefficients of atmospheric transmissivity are given for characteristic clear-weathe…
Net radiation during cloudy, damp conditions in the snow-free season at Poste-de-la-Baleine (Great Whale), Québec
In aprevious study, a close linear relationship was indicated between net radiation andincoming solar radiation at Poste-de-la-Baleine, in late May/early June, for damp surfaces of many types, under cool, humid, cloudy conditions. Using the standard hourly weather observations at the AES station for 1969, an attempt is now made to determine to whatextent this relationship may be typical of the entire snow-free season. The results suggest that nea…
The Radiation Balance of Snow-Free Surfaces at Poste-de-la-Baleine, Québec, May 30 - June 1, 1970
Total insolation and net radiation were measured for a wide variety of surfaces at Poste-de-la-Baleine, Québec, from May 30 to June 1, 1970, during alternating cyclonic and anticyclonic situations. With the exception of open water in southeastem James Bay and in the vicinity of the Belcher Islands, the ice cover was complete over Hudson Bayand westerly and southwesterly flow were associated with cool, wet, cloudy weather. For cloudy conditions, i…
Net Radiation During Clear Weather in the Snow-Free Season for Various Types of Surfaces, Poste-de-la-Baleine (Great Whale), Québec
During the snow-free seasons 1972-1975, point fluxes of net radiation (Q*) and incoming solar radiation (K↓) were measured in clear weather for different surfaces near Poste-de-la-Baleine (Great Whale), Québec. The relationship between Q* and K↓ is described for each type of surface in terms of the simple ratio Q*/K↓. 100% and the linear egression curve, to enable estimates of net radiation to be made from the more available measured or calculate…
