An Econometric Model of Socio‐spatial Development of Tourist Regions. The Case of the Swiss Canton of Valais
Like all human activities, tourism reflects the social and cultural values of an epoch. The relative lack of quantitative modelling in tourism research shows the need to develop theoretical models, using the contributions of behavioural geography and psychological analysis. A generalized Lotka‐Volterra system is then applied to a case study, the Swiss canton of Valais, to show potential applications in spatial planning

Regional Science in Crisis: A Plea for More Open and Relevant Approach
Spatial imaginary and geography: A plea for the geography of representations
Producer Services and Systems of Flexible Production
During the decade of the 1980s, regional science began to devote more and more attention to the influence of two phenomena upon the structure and functioning of the space-economy: (1) service activities, in general, and producer services, in particular, and (2) flexible production systems. This paper explores the extent to which these two major preoccupations of contemporary regional science can be integrated, and attempts to contribute to the un…
Producer Services and Flexible Production: An Exploratory Analysis
While the flexible production literature has become increasingly abundant in recent years, the vast majority of it is narrowly restricted to manufacturing activities, entirely ignoring the role that producer services play in modern systems of production. This paper attempts to explore the conceptual linkages between the growth and the location of producer services, on the one hand, and the rise of flexible forms of production, on the other. After…

Reading the territory : towards a regional geography aware of our daily life. — This paper deals with a new conception of regional geography integrating behavioural and humanistic approaches. If we want to understand the sense of place and the roots of human practices, we need to be more open to intuition, to the links between signifier and signified and to the symbolics aspects of our daily life.

The perception of urban landscapes. Methodological essay. The ecological approach to the study of the urban community in the 1920s is already concerned with the complex problem of the mental maps that people hold of their environment. According to the sector theory, advanced by H. Hoyt, urban society is stratified into a system of socio-economic classes where residents perceive the various parts of the city in a similar way. Recent researches sho…
