  • Food and electricity self-sufficiency trade-offs in Reunion Island: Modelling land-use change scenarios with stakeholders

Open Access•Valentin Russeil, Danny Lo Seen et al.•ARTICLE•Land Use Policy•2023•References: 23

Reunion Island, a French overseas region in the Indian Ocean, has endorsed policies targeting food and electricity self-sufficiency. This objective implies balancing different land-uses (food, feed, bioelectricity, urbanisation, etc.) which we explore in a set of scenarios towards 2035. Through participatory structural analysis, we modelled drivers of change as processes using Ocelet, a spatially explicit and dynamic modelling platform. We built …

  • Extracting multilayer networks from Sentinel-2 satellite image time series

Open Access•Roberto Interdonato, Raffaele Gaetano et al.•ARTICLE•Network Science•2020

Nowadays, modern Earth Observation systems continuously generate huge amounts of data. A notable example is the Sentinel-2 Earth Observation mission, developed by the European Space Agency as part of the Copernicus Programme, which supplies images from the whole planet at high spatial resolution (up to 10 m) with unprecedented revisit time (every 5 days at the equator). In this data-rich scenario, the remote sensing community is showing a growing…

  • Analysing plausible futures from past patterns of land change in West Burkina Faso

    Open Access•Camille Jahel, Eric Vall et al.•ARTICLE•Land Use Policy•2018•Cited by: 1•References: 38

  • Spatial heterogeneity of land cover response to climatic change in the Nilgiri highlands (Southern India) since the last glacial maximum

    Open Access•Laurent Caner, Danny Lo Seen et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2007•Cited by: 7•References: 5

Fourteen hillslope soil profiles were sampled under natural vegetation (ie, grassland or forest) and plantations in the Nilgiri highlands, Southern India. Delta 13 C ratios were measured at different depths and 14 C ages determined for six profiles. In these highland soils where the turnover rate of organic matter is extremely low, the δ 13 C ratios of entire soil profiles have recorded signatures of past land cover. By correlating the data with …

  • Analysing ethnobotanical and fishery-related importance of mangroves of the East-Godavari Delta (Andhra Pradesh, India) for conservation and management purposes

    Open Access•F Dahdouh-Guebas, Collin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnobiology and…•2006•Cited by: 12•References: 40

Mangrove forests, though essentially common and wide-spread, are highly threatened. Local societies along with their knowledge about the mangrove also are endangered, while they are still underrepresented as scientific research topics. With the present study we document local utilization patterns, and perception of ecosystem change. We illustrate how information generated by ethnobiological research can be used to strengthen the management of the…
