“Science Is Important, but Why?” Primary-Age Children’s Lack of Understanding of Why We Study STEM and the Nature of Science Careers
Despite persistent concerns about STEM workforce shortages in the UK, efforts to promote science study and careers have had limited success in translating into aspirations among young people. It is common for young people in Western industrialised societies to be told that it is important that they study science, but the impact of such messaging, particularly among younger children, is poorly understood. Our study asks whether pupils have absorbe…
An Interview with Saul Williams
An Interview with Saul Williams Robert Walsh This interview was conducted by telephone in December 2005, between Perpignan, France and London, UK. WALSH: As far as what's going on in the hip-hop underground right now, there's been a lot of discussion of the more experimental artists. They've usually been described as "underground hip-hop run by fat white guys with beards." In one of the songs on your latest album, you seem to address this when yo…
An Interview with Tour
TOURE: I think I do. I think those of us who go back to the 1980s with this culture, definitely have a shred of elitism. There was a time when it seemed that most rappers-excuse me, most MCs-were great, or at least, innovative, but now there are people who seem just strictly commercial. So, yes, I make a distinction between the MC who's just a serious artist who has flow and diction and innovates and creates and has intricate things going on in h…
An Interview with Jean Grae
An Interview with Jean Grae Robert Walsh This interview was conducted by telephone in March, 2006, between College Station, Texas and New York City. WALSH: Could you detail a bit your growing up in the hip-hop culture? GRAE: It's kind of hard to pinpoint. I think at that time, going to high school in the early nineties, there was no way you could escape it. It was just the climate of New York, the amount of talent that was coming out was what we …

A Revision of the Reiss Premarital Sexual Permissiveness Scale
A new version of the Reiss (1964) Premarital Sexual Permissiveness scale is introduced in this research. Changes are made in the sexual behaviors and relationship stages included in the scale and experimental randomization is used to examine how standards vary for different categories of targets. The sexual behaviors in the Reiss PSP scale--kissing petting and full sexual relationships--are replaced by heavy petting (defined as touching of genita…
The Colour Bar
The progress of Catholicism in Africa is so amazing that only the divine character of the Church can explain it. Yet we realize how much remains to be done when we recall the millions of coloured people still untouched by Christianity. And the need is urgent not only amongst indigenous negroes, but also amongst those of such a country as the United States, where live many millions of negroes crying out for the religion of God made Man. In the cen…
