  • Isotope values reveal “canopy effect” in deer territoriality and maize consumption for dogs from archaeological sites in Kentucky dating to the Middle Woodland through Late Fort Ancient time periods

    Open Access•Renee M Bonzani, Bruce L Manzano et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 28

  • Using Deer Stable Isotope Data to Test a Niche Construction Hypothesis for an Increase in Prehistoric Human Maize Consumption in the Eastern Woodlands of the United States

    Renee M Bonzani, Katharine V Alexander et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2021•References: 23

Pollen records and macrobotanical remains indicate maize was grown minimally during the Middle Woodland (200 BCE - CE 500) in eastern North America. However, previous isotopic studies have found limited evidence of its consumption by people in archaeobotanical assemblages. Hypothetically, if deer (Odocoileus virginianus Zimmermann) were feeding on maize (Zea mays L.) in gardens prior to its adoption as a human dietary staple, this may indicate a …

  • Knowledge and Reality in Nine Questions

Matthew Davidson•BOOK•Knowledge and Reality in Nine…•2021

Have you ever wondered what makes the questions a philosopher asks different from those asked by a non-philosopher? Is it a desire to seek the truth? Is it their reliance on scientific methods? Or is a philosophical question one that deals with the world we live in? For the Ancient Greek thinkers Plato and Aristotle, questions about philosophy concerned the fundamental nature of reality and how we know about it. This introduction is based on thei…

  • Perceptual confidence neglects decision-incongruent evidence in the brain

  • Primary Paediatric Bronchial Airway Epithelial Cell in Vitro Responses to Environmental Exposures

Open Access•Neil Mcinnes, Matthew Davidson et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

The bronchial airway epithelial cell (BAEC) is the site for initial encounters between inhaled environmental factors and the lower respiratory system. Our hypothesis was that release of pro inflammatory interleukins (IL)-6 and IL-8 from primary BAEC cultured from children will be increased after in vitro exposure to common environmental factors. Primary BAEC were obtained from children undergoing clinically indicated routine general anaesthetic p…

The first page of Millery Polyne’s new book opens with a disclaimer: “The title of this book may be misleading” (xi), he writes, and it is true. Despite the name, neither Polyne nor the 14 other co

  • A demonstration against theistic activism

    Open Access•Matthew Davidson•ARTICLE•Religious Studies•1999

Many theists have tried to work out coherent accounts of the relationship between God and abstract objects. Some have contended that abstracta depend on God for their existence and nature. Following Christopher Menzel and Thomas Morris, I call such a position, ‘theistic activism’. In this essay, I begin by examining some motivations for holding such a position. Then, I try to make sense of how abstract objects might depend on God. Finally, I obje…
