  • Stimulus dependence of neural sites in binocular rivalry

Bo Dong, Zuyu Xia et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2026

  • Interactions among smoke, radiation, and meteorology in the Canadian wildfires

Open Access•Ming Zhang, Yiqiang Tu et al.•ARTICLE•Progress in Physical Geography:…•2026

The record-breaking 2023 Canadian wildfires attracted considerable attention; however, the bidirectional feedbacks between wildfires and meteorology remain unclear. Here, we use the fully coupled Weather Research and Forecasting model with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) to investigate the dynamic interactions among wildfire emissions, aerosol–radiation interactions (ARI), and meteorological responses during this extreme event. The model reasonably reproduc…

  • Repeated teaching assignments, psychological need satisfaction, and mental health-related challenges among Chinese university teachers: A sequential mixed-methods study

    Open Access•Ming Zhang•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2026

Repeated teaching assignments are common in higher education, yet their psychological implications for university teachers remain underexplored. Guided by self-determination theory, this sequential mixed-methods study examined how repeated teaching was associated with teachers' experiences of autonomy, competence, relatedness, and mental health-related challenges in the Chinese university context. The quantitative phase combined descriptive and c…

Open Access•Huan Liu, Ming Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background With the population aging, oral frailty among older adults has become an increasingly prominent concern. Oral frailty is a condition that is highly prevalent among older adults and has a significant negative impact on their quality of life. The condition can exacerbate physical frailty among older adults, increasing the risk of disability or death. This study investigated the current status and influencing factors of oral frailty in ol…

  • Are smart older adult care devices “cost-reducing and efficiency-enhancing” or “demand-activating”?—Empirical evidence from Chinese older adult households

Open Access•Lin Guo, Linlin Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background: Against the backdrop of global aging and the growing burden of chronic diseases, Smart Health Devices (SHD) are regarded as important tools for health management. However, there is a theoretical controversy between "technological substitution" and "technological expansion" regarding their economic consequences: Does SHD reduce medical expenditures through prevention, or push up costs by detecting hidden diseases? Currently, there is a…

Open Access•Xing Zhou, Jianze Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2025

The core function of the carbon market is price discovery, but the current carbon prices neither reflect government planning to reduce emissions nor provide the necessary incentives for the innovation of low-carbon technologies in society. This study developed the Hubei carbon price probability forecasting models using machine learning and stochastic analysis from the perspectives of market performance, government planning, and social objectives.…

  • Evaluating metaverse-based L2 vocabulary learning effectiveness using a proposed metric of vocabulary forgetting percentage

Open Access•Ming Zhang, Mike Minwen Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2025

Introduction Vocabulary gain and retention are widely recognized as essential metrics in second language (L2) vocabulary learning. However, these traditional measures often fail to reflect the proportional loss of learned vocabulary knowledge over time, thus limiting their practical, diagnostic, and comparative value across different instructional contexts. Methods To address this gap, the present study proposes a percentage-based metric: Vocabul…

Yanmei Hu, Ming Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica Sinica•2013

The article first estimates models of mode choice and average trip length for 239 diverse mixed-use developments in six diverse regions. It then applies these models to twelve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development (LEED-ND) pilot projects to predict approximate vehicle miles of travel (VMT) per person trip. Finally, it compares LEED-ND values to regional average values from the National Household Travel Survey…
