This article introduces the concepts of diaspora and transnational networks to research on children with migrant backgrounds. It is based on interviews with children who live in a Swedish multicultural area and the research questions focus on issues relating to diasporic consciousness and diasporic practices from a child's perspective. This article is based on a qualitative community study that explores the everyday life of black South African women living in a township on the outskirts of Cape Town. Step-Fathering: Comparing Policy and Everyday Experience in Britain and Sweden
Step-fathering is becoming increasingly common in contemporary western societies, yet it has received little research attention from either social policy or sociological perspectives.
