The Ripple Effect: Unpacking the Impact of Early Educational Disruptions on Rural Migrant Children’s Learning in China
This study investigates the effects of early educational disruptions on the academic achievements of rural migrant children in China. Using a life course theory framework, it examines whether early educational disruptions negatively affect children’s future cognitive abilities, academic performance and ability to cope with academic challenges, drawing on data from the 2013 to 2014 China Education Panel Survey. The analysis shows that early educat…
Improving Family Development Ability: The Treatment Effect of Family Savings: Empirical Evidence From a Generalized Propensity Score Matching Approach
Based on the theory of asset building, this study provides an in-depth analysis of the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) conducted in 2016. The main objective is to examine the measurement structure of China’s family development ability and explore the relationship between the family saving rate, government subsidies, and family development ability using the structural equation modeling approach. State policy and contraceptive choices: Evidence from China 1979–2012
This study examines the relationship between China’s contraception policy and married women’s (20–49 years) choice between long-acting and short-acting contraceptive methods during two periods–1980–1994 and 1995–2012. The aim is to examine the link between strictness of the contraception policy and married women’s contraceptive choice. Using data from the 1988 and the 2006 National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Surveys, we estimated the…

The findings suggest that there are statistically significant gender differences in employment among people with disabilities. It is more likely for men with disabilities to be employed than for women with disabilities. Other individual- a…
The Impact of the State's Abortion Policy on Induced Abortion Among Married Women in China: A Mixed Methods Study
This study uses mixed methods to investigate the effects of the state's abortion policy on induced abortion among married women in China. I employ both quantitative analysis of data from the 1988 and 2006 National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Surveys and thematic analysis qualitative data from 140 in-depth interviews. Results show that the more stringent the abortion policy, the more likely married women are to have an induced abortion…
Permanent emergency: Inequality in access to hospitalisation among urban elderly Chinese
The phenomenon of elderly patients staying in hospital emergency department observation units for extended time in urban China poses a challenge to China's healthcare system and presents a social problem of inequality. In this paper, we analyse statistics collected from 16 major public hospitals in Beijing to assess the extent and intensity of the problem and examine interviews of medical professionals to understand the mechanisms linking the iss…
Induced abortion patterns and determinants among married women in China: 1979 To 2010
China has launched the one-child policy to control its rapidly expanding population since 1979. Local governments, tasked with limiting regional birth rates, commonly imposed induced abortions. After 1994, China's family planning policy was relatively loosened and mandatory induced abortion gradually gave way to client-centered and informed-choice contraceptive policy and the "Compensation" Fee policy. This study assesses trends in and determinan…
