  • Preparing First-Year Engineering Students to Think About Code

Open Access•Briana Bettin, Michelle Jarvie-Eggart et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Education•2022

In the wake of the so-called fourth industrial revolution, computer programming has become a foundational competency across engineering disciplines. Yet engineering students often resist the notion that computer programming is a skill relevant to their future profession. Here are presented two activities aimed at supporting the early development of engineering students’ attitudes and abilities regarding programming in a first-year engineering cou…

  • Breaking barriers, building understanding

Open Access•Kelly Steelman, Kelly S Steelman et al.•ARTICLE•ACM SIGCAS Computers and Society•2021

In entering the digital realm, older adults face obstacles beyond the physical and cognitive barriers traditionally associated with accessibility. One of these obstacles, technology related anxiety, is particularly problematic because it discourages exploration and way finding, two behaviors critical to the development of digital literacy. We see opportunities to address this issue and bring isolated older adults into a larger digital community, …

  • Eliminación de la tuberculosis, un vecindario por vez

J Peter Cegielski, David E Griffith et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2014•References: 8

  • Eliminating Tuberculosis One Neighborhood at a Time

J Peter Cegielski, David E Griffith et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2013•References: 8

Objectives. We evaluated a strategy for preventing tuberculosis (TB) in communities most affected by it. Methods. In 1996, we mapped reported TB cases (1985–1995) and positive tuberculin skin test (TST) reactors (1993–1995) in Smith County, Texas. We delineated the 2 largest, densest clusters, identifying 2 highest-incidence neighborhoods (180 square blocks, 3153 residents). After extensive community preparation, trained health care workers went …

Open Access•Patrick K Moonan, Teresa Quitugua et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

Universal DOT for tuberculosis is associated with a decrease in the acquisition and transmission of resistant tuberculosis

  • Some Stated Employment of Your Mind

    Open Access•Charles Wallace•ARTICLE•Church History•1989•References: 2

Susanna Wesley (1669-1742) was raised a Dissenter, converted to Anglicanism as an adolescent, and arguably spent the last three years of her life as a Methodist. Moreover, these three modes of English Protestantism were neatly embodied respectively in three generations of clergymen to whom she was closely related: her father, the Presbyterian divine Samuel Annesley; her husband, Samuel Wesley, rector of Epworth; and her sons John and Charles, lea…
