Semantic behavioral sequences from UAV video
Understanding how neighborhood centers support behavioral processes in everyday routines is important for clarifying their contribution to sustainable neighborhood development. Such behavior is diverse, context-dependent, and often unfolds as continuous processes organized around goals and needs, calling for a person-centered behavior mapping paradigm. Yet recording such processes at the micro-scale without losing behavioral semantics, and transf…
Authority, Gender, and Midwifery in Early Modern Italy
The making of early modern eye models
Anatomical eye models became increasingly popular in the seventeenth century across Europe. They served as useful pedagogical tools, allowing the hands-on study of ocular anatomy and repeated re-enactment of the dissection process, while also being appreciated for their workmanship and aesthetics. Their makers included surgeons, anatomists and artisans, and they often collaborated to produce these artefacts. Comprising materials such as ivory, ho…
Dynamic changes on brain function during early stage of Tai Chi training

Three Recipes for Historical Reconstruction
Three PhD students in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Columbia University recount their experiences of a collaborative hands-on approach to the humanities, at the intersection of craft and science. As participants in the “Laboratory Seminar” component of the “Making and Knowing Project,” under the direction of Professor Pamela Smith, each was responsible for reconstructing, annotating, and contextualizing historical recipes from a six…
