  • The Impact of Curiosity on Teacher–Student Relationships

Open Access•Roque do Carmo Amorim Neto, Nancy Golz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Education•2022

The goals of this study were (a) to assess the unique contributions of curiosity and demographics to the teacher–student relationship and (b) to identify the most common barriers teachers experience when attempting to build positive relationships with students. A sample of 518 public school teachers from across the United States completed an online survey. The results show that curiosity and grade level predict teacher–student relationships. Stud…

  • Delayed Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis during the Covid-19 Pandemic in Alberta

Open Access•Emily Walker, Yunting Fu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

The frequency of colorectal cancer (CRC) diagnosis has decreased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Health system planning is needed to address the backlog of undiagnosed patients. We developed a framework for analyzing barriers to diagnosis and estimating patient volumes under different system relaunch scenarios. This retrospective study included CRC cases from the Alberta Cancer Registry for the pre-pandemic (1 January 2016-4 March 2020) and intra-p…

    Open Access•Douglas Stewart, Douglas J Stewart•ARTICLE•Education and Urban Society•2006•Cited by: 1•References: 3

In previous eras, teacher training institutions included programs designed to enhance the moral qualities of prospective teachers. With the exception of programs offered in denominational teacher training colleges, such programs have largely ceased to exist. This article advances the argument against a backdrop of increasing incidents of abuse of students by teachers that there is a need to again place greater emphasis on the moral development of…

  • Electoral Registration

Open Access•Ben R Marshall, Ben Marshall et al.•ARTICLE•The Political Quarterly•2005

Electoral registration is the key building block for the administration of elections. It is the gateway to voting: people cannot vote at elections in the UK if their name is not on the register. In recent times there has been much debate in media and Westminster circles about current arrangements for electoral registration and the related issue of the future of postal voting. This article presents new research published by the Electoral Commissio…

  • Socrates' Last Bath

Douglas Stewart, Douglas J Stewart•ARTICLE•Journal of the history of…•1972

Socrates' Last Bath DOUGLAS J. STEWART THE PURPOSE OF THIS NOTE is to celebrate the discovery--if that is not too strong a term---of one of those delightful if minor aspects of Plato's art that proves all over again that genius is known as much by small pains as by magnificent architectonics . Why does Socrates take a bath in the Phaedo (l16a)? Not, why does he say he is going to take one--to save the women trouble after he is dead--but why does …

  • Sallust and Fortuna

    Douglas Stewart, Douglas J Stewart•ARTICLE•History and Theory•1968•Cited by: 1

In his prologue to the Bellum Catilinae (and more cursorily in that to the Bellum Jugurthinum -hereafter cited as I), Sallust propounds some fairly complicated explanations of human action, and the possible ranges of human action. There has been much debate whether these passages are in themselves philosophically coherent, and whether they consort particularly well with the historical narrations which they introduce.' If this paper, which will de…
