  • Explaining Change in Germany's Anti-corruption Policy in the Era of Chancellor Merkel

    Sebastian Wolf•ARTICLE•German Politics & Society•2021

Chancellor Angela Merkel's second grand coalition (2013-2017) was the most successful federal government since 2005 regarding the adoption of anti-corruption measures. This article first gives an overview of recent German anti-corruption reforms. In order to explain the varying policy outputs of Merkel's coalition governments, an analytical perspective drawing on the multiple streams approach is utilized. This theoretical perspective is then appl…

  • Stomatal response to decreased relative humidity constrains the acceleration of terrestrial evapotranspiration

Open Access•Mingzhong Xiao, Zhongbo Yu et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2020

Terrestrial evapotranspiration (ET) is thermodynamically expected to increase with increasing atmospheric temperature; however, the actual constraints on the intensification of ET remain uncertain due to a lack of direct observations. Based on the FLUXNET2015 Dataset, we found that relative humidity (RH) is a more important driver of ET than temperature. While actual ET decrease at reduced RH, potential ET increases, consistently with the complem…

The research note comments on W. Veenendaal's article “A Big Prince in a Tiny Realm: Smallness, Monarchy, and Political Legitimacy in the Principality of Liechtenstein”. It is argued, inter alia, that the phenomenon of “princely self‐restraint” should not be underestimated in Liechtenstein's constitutional reality. The character of the microstate's actual political system strongly depends on the individual personality of the Reigning Prince. A st…

  • Contrasting response of grassland versus forest carbon and water fluxes to spring drought in Switzerland

    Open Access•Sebastian Wolf, W Eugster et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2013

Since the European summer heat wave of 2003, considerable attention has been paid to the impacts of exceptional weather events on terrestrial ecosystems. While our understanding of the effects of summer drought on ecosystem carbon and water vapour fluxes has recently advanced, the effects of spring drought remain unclear. In Switzerland, spring 2011 (March–May) was the warmest and among the driest since the beginning of meteorological measurement…
