Pre-exposure prophylaxis persistence at two sites in an integrated primary health care programme in South Africa

What happened to Black Lives Matter? Public support for Black Lives Matter and the politics of police reform
In less than a decade, Black Lives Matter metamorphosized from a hashtag into a thriving social movement fueling protests across the U.S. but then rapidly dissipated and has since been all but forgotten, begging the question: What happened to Black Lives Matter? This query is addressed herein via a review of the literature on confidence in the police and analyses of data on support for Black Lives Matter. Prior research indicates that most Americ…
The impact of Covid-19 restrictions on HIV prevention and treatment services for key populations in South Africa
Service provision rebounded from the initial shock created by pandemic-related restrictions, and HIV services were largely maintained for KP in South Africa. These results suggest that HIV service delivery among programs designed for KP was able to be flexible and resilient to the evolving restrictions. The results of this study can inform plans for future pandemics and large-scale disruptions to the delivery of HIV services
The Desirability of Law Enforcement Careers among College Students in a Hispanic Community
This study examines the effects of attitudes toward the police and punitive ideology on Hispanic criminal justice majors’ interest in law enforcement careers. Few scholars have quest…

Exploring repeat HIV testing among men who have sex with men in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, South Africa
Despite the high prevalence of HIV among men who have sex with men (MSM) - and the general adult population - in South Africa, there is little data regarding the extent to which MSM seek repeat testing for HIV. This study explores reported histories of HIV testing, and the rationales for test seeking, among a purposive sample of 34 MSM in two urban areas of South Africa. MSM participated in activity-based in-depth interviews that included a timel…
Concerns about crime in a crime-ridden country
This paper provides analyses of data on concerns about crime obtained from surveys administered to 303 law school students in Mexico. Descriptive analyses of the data show considerable concerns about crime among the sample, with a sizeable majority of respondents (more than 80%) having reported concerns about burglary, home invasion and their safety when out during the day. More than half the respondents (61.4%) reported concerns about their safe…
HIV Risk and Associations of HIV Infection among men who have sex with men in Peri-Urban Cape Town, South Africa
The conclusions from this study include that a there is a high risk and underserved population of MSM in the townships surrounding Cape Town. These data further highlight the need to better characterize risk factors for HIV prevention and appropriate targeted combination packages…
Community Policing in Post‐September 11 America
In the wake of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, US law enforcement agencies at all levels began altering their strategies, placing an emphasis on the use of aggressive tactics and invasive technology. It is not clear, however, whether the new measures have had any deterrent impact on terrorism or serve the best interests of the public. This paper provides an overview of the post‐September 11 changes in law enforcement, with a focus on…

Sport and Festival in the Ancient Greek World
First launched at the time of the Athens Olympics, Sport and Festival in the Ancient Greek World has become a classic study in its field. The book shows how the…
