  • Improvement in quality of life and loneliness after the community connections program: A community-based pilot intervention in South Australia

Open Access•Bryony Jardine, Pei Jie Tan et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2025

Participants of the CCP pilot intervention reported significantly improved QoL and reduced loneliness at program completion. The CCP shows promise for the ability of community-based interventions to reduce loneliness and improve QoL for individuals disconnected from their communities and local health and support care services. These findings have implications for the development of programs that facilitate place-based, person-centered connections…

  • Platform Multiverse: Discontent and Disconnection among Alt-Rights

    Open Access•Sandra Robinson•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Communication•2022

Background: This article explores the platform multiverse of alt-rights, whereby groups and individuals, ideas, and discourses move across and between social platforms to avoid detection, suspension, and moderation. Analysis: This study examines disconnection practice among alt-rights as part of an affiliative assemblage that extends across multiple platforms and works to orient the disconnected toward reconnection. Conclusion and implications: T…

  • Databases and Doppelgängers: New Articulations of Power

    Sandra Robinson•ARTICLE•Configurations•2018

This article explores the power and efficacy of databases as part of the turn to intensive datafication in contemporary life in which we are all enfolded within a datafied milieu: a catalogued and curated data assemblage comprising aspects of our life. This assemblage of people, processes, and things is described as having a generative power—data power—producing not the "one" profiled individual, but the many multiple proxies out of the data asse…

  • Risk for cardiovascular disease after pre-eclampsia: Differences in Canadian women and healthcare provider perspectives on knowledge sharing

Myra J Hird, Rebecca Scott Yoshizawa et al.•ARTICLE•Health Sociology Review•2017•References: 47

A research-to-practice gap was identified in a study on knowledge sharing regarding future cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk associated with a previous diagnosis of pre-eclampsia (PE) during pregnancy, where 41% of healthcare practitioners did not inform patients of increased risk more than 50% of the time. Employing an empirical, sociological lens, we conducted interviews with women and healthcare providers from the same sample as that study. In…

  • Discourses of Empire and Commonwealth

Sandra Robinson, Alastair Niven•BOOK•Discourses of Empire and…•2016

In Discourses of Empire and Commonwealth a range of prominent writers and critics reflect on the legacy of imperialism and the role of writers in forging a new, more cosmopolitan identity. The contributors, writing about a wide range of countries, affirm the freedom of the human spirit, even within unjust or oppressive social systems. They show the power of words to illuminate injustices and unite different peoples. Salman Rushdie famously declar…

  • Escaping bullying: The simultaneous impact of individual and unit-level bullying on turnover intentions

    Open Access•Marjan Houshmand, Jane O’Reilly et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2012•Cited by: 6•References: 73

In this study, we investigate the simultaneous impact of, and interaction between, being the direct target of bullying and working in an environment characterized by bullying upon employees’ turnover intentions. Hierarchical linear modeling analysis of a sample of 41 hospital units and 357 nurses demonstrates that working in an environment characterized by bullying increases individual employees’ turnover intentions. Importantly, employees report…

  • Wrestling with Intellectual Diversity in Public Administration: Avoiding Disconnectedness and Fragmentation while Seeking Rigor, Depth, and Relevance

Rebecca Nesbit, Stephanie Moulton et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Public Administration…•2011•Cited by: 19•References: 41

Public Administration (PA) is a field characterized by great diversity in theoretical approaches and methodological tactics. This wide scope lends itself to potential epistemological and methodological fragmentation, which prevents scholars from adequately appreciating and building on each other's work. Although many scholars value PA's theoretical and methodological diversity, this intellectual diversity brings some important trade-offs that mus…
