  • Two comics adaptations of Zazie dans le métro

    Ann Neville Miller, Ann Miller•ARTICLE•Modern & Contemporary France•2019•References: 1

This article compares two adaptations of Zazie dans le métro into comics format: Jacques Carelman’s, from 1966, and Clément Oubrerie’s, from 2008. The former received a negative critical reception and was deemed old-fashioned and excessively faithful, on grounds of its inclusion of the entire text under the comics panels, whereas the latter has been highly praised. • Bande dessinée

Open Access•Ann Neville Miller, Ann Miller•ARTICLE•French Cultural Studies•1999•Cited by: 1

The article discusses a fierce polemic over conflicting views as to the date when bande dessinée, or comic strip, can be said to have begun. According to the Centre national de la bande dessinée et de l'image in Angoulême, the founder of the medium was Rodolphe Töpffer, and so 1996 was accordingly celebrated as the 150th anniversary of his death. Meanwhile, in Brussels, the Centre belge de la bande dessinée declared the American R.F. Outcault to …

  • Subtypes of Substance Abusers

    Open Access•John P Allen, Vivian B Faden et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1990

Several earlier studies have reported clinically relevant personality correlates of high vs low scores on the MacAndrew Scale (Mac) of the MMPI. Unfortunately, these projects have not adjusted for age or nature of abuse. Also, most have assumed that the personality correlates are the same for female patients as for male patients. This study attempts to address these deficiencies. Even after correcting for age and diagnosis, high Mac patients diff…
