  • Questions of identity and global visibility

    Keith V Smith, Kirsten Smith•ARTICLE•Contemporary French Civilization•2024•References: 24

This article examines the relationship between French film funding and the regional cinemas of the Southern Cone of Latin America (Cono Sur) and the Maghreb. Keith V Smith, Kirsten Smith•ARTICLE•Quebec Studies•2023

Tracey Deer’s most recent film, Beans (2020), examines the Oka Crisis through the eyes of Tekehentahkhwa, a young Mohawk girl who goes by the nickname “Beans.” Deer’s film is one of the few cinematic works of “la relève autochtone” that is situated entirely in the past, and by revisiting the Oka Crisis, the director examines the geographical divisions that are still in place today and discussed in twenty-first-century First Nations’ literature an…

Aligning with this notion, results of three studies (total N = 1,501) suggest that expressing moral outrage at third-party transgresso…

Joel T Nadler, Kendra Will et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Gay & Lesbian Social…•2012•References: 6

“Don't Ask, Don't Tell” was devised to combat the perceived costs associated with gays and lesbians openly serving in the military, including low unit cohesion, damage to the military's reputation, and the general population's lack of acceptance for homosexuals serving (Belkin, 2008). However, recent polls and policy reversal have shown growing public support for homosexuals being allowed to serve openly. Interestingly, the amount of support has …
