Abortion Attitudes in the Age of Trump
Objective To compare abortion attitudes among Whites and Latinos and identify factors shaping these views. Methods Data come from the 2020 Cooperative Election Study. Ordinary least squares (OLS) regression models are used to assess the influence of gender, education, age, and religious affiliation. Objective This article examines the effect of gender attitudes on the voting behavior of whites in the 2012 and 2016 presidential elections. Methods Logistic regression models are used to analyze data from the 2012 and 2016 waves of the American National Election Study. Recently released data from the 2016 American National Election Study allow us to offer a multifaceted profile of white voters who voted for Donald J. Trump in the 2016 presidential election. We find that Trump's supporters voted for him mainly because they share his prejudices, not because they're financially stressed. Did the Transformation to Post-Communism in Eastern Europe Restore Pre-Communist Property Relations
Using data from Szelenyi and Treimanâ s 1993 six-nation survey of Social Stratification in Eastern Europe, we find that the transformation from socialism substantially restored precommunist property relations in the five Eastern European countries studied here (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia). This paper provides an event-history analysis of recruitment into the Communist Party between 1945 and 1988 in Bulgaria, Hungary Poland, and the Czech and Slovak Socialist Republics. Despite evidence that gender discrimination in Party recruitment processes eased in some of these countries, women remained significantly less likely than men to enter the political arena via the Communist Party across the region. Researchers analyzing self-employment in post-communist Eastern Europe have frequently adopted a “dualist” model which relegates the self-employed to marginal sectors of the economy.
