  • The Making of Heroes

    Gregory Gibson, Gregory C Gibson et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Focus•2007•Cited by: 1•References: 11

Through the use of posed vignettes in a telephone survey, we investigate the construction of heroes. We examine the extent to which respondents attribute hero status to three potential 9/11 and “war on terrorism” heroes: Todd Beamer, Army Private Jessica Lynch, and President George W. Bush. Findings suggest the importance of the extraordinary nature and the rarity of action(s) performed by heroes in the attribution of hero status; the role of cla…

  • Personal Sexual History and Punitive Judgements for Rape

    Open Access•Eugene J Kanin, Eugene Jackson et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1987

Although there have been numerous studies implicating extralegal factors as influencing the assessment of the seriousness of rape, few have considered the unique life experiences of the individual who makes such judgements. One exception, the Zillman and Bryant study, demonstrated that experimental subjects, after massive exposure to pornography, gave significantly shorter sentences to a rapist than did the controls. It is hypothesized that, if e…

  • Affective Sensitivity and Peer Selection of Counseling Potential

    Open Access•Eugene Jackson•ARTICLE•Counselor Education and Supervision•1986•Cited by: 1•References: 10

A group of 83 undergraduates enrolled in interpersonal skills training groups were administered the Kagan Affective Sensitivity Scale-Form E-80 (KASS-E80). At the end of the semester they selected peers whom they believed would best be able to help another person deal with an emotional or interpersonal problem. First, the KASS-E80 scores for those frequently chosen and those unchosen were compared with a group chosen with moderate frequency withi…

  • Interpersonal Traits and Facilitative Helping Characteristics

    Open Access•Eugene Jackson•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1985

Although the over-all regression equation was significant, additive effects of Dominance and Love assessed by Leary's Interpersonal Check List accounted for little variance (16%) in Therapeutic Talent, a composite index. Correlations among measures were based on responses of 53 undergraduate women

  • Russian Made Simple

Maurice I Levin, Eugene Jackson et al.•ARTICLE•The Slavic and East European…•1966

  • Testing for Content in an Intensive Reading Lesson

    Eugene Jackson•ARTICLE•The German Quarterly•1937

THE core of every complete lesson in intensive reading should be silent reading and study of the text by the students, followed by intensive testing for content on the part of the teacher. Preliminary clearing up of difficulties both verbal and grammatical, and oral reading of the text by the teacher with students' books closed, pave the way for silent reading and study of the text, but cannot take its place. It is during the silent reading that …

  • New Approach to German for Junior and Senior High Schools

Francis Magyar, Eugene Jackson•ARTICLE•The German Quarterly•1932

  • Debunking the Subjunctive

    Eugene Jackson•ARTICLE•The German Quarterly•1930

THE subjunctive is one of the few fairly easy things in the German In fact it is a sort of oasis in a desert of difficulties, a rather pleasant stopping place for the student who has successfully struggled through the quicksands of case and the wilderness of word-order. Compared with the subjunctive in French or Spanish, the German subjunctive is almost child's play if properly taught. It is therefore hard to understand the statement of F. W. Kau…

  • Adapting Teaching Methods to Pupil Material

    Eugene Jackson•ARTICLE•The German Quarterly•1928

stressed the point that there must be an increase in the efficiency of German teaching, if German is once more to come into its own. They made it clear that we must subject our methods and aims to careful scrutiny, modifying and changing them to meet modern conditions, so that German teachers would once more lead the vanguard of progressive teachers of modern languages as in the halcyon days before the war. We do not think that Professors von Kle…
