  • Reporting From the Whites of Their Eyes

    Open Access•Sang Hea Kil•ARTICLE•Communication Theory•2019•Cited by: 10•References: 15

This study evaluates how “all lives matter” (ALM) has advanced Whiteness in the news. Critical race theory’s critique of liberalism’s embrace of race-neutral racism is applied to the journalistic practice of objectivity. Racialized reporting is considered “fair” through the race-neutral journalistic practice of objectivity that mystifies the Whiteness of the news industry. • A Diseased Body Politic

    Sang Hea Kil•ARTICLE•Cultural Studies•2014

This article is an interdisciplinary attempt to theorize how racism functions in the most recent wave of nativist discourse to produce whiteness and the nation. The theoretical framework of ‘Purity and Danger’ provides a starting point in analyzing how whiteness and nation are constructed as ‘pure’, while Chinese imm…

Dating couples are tied to each other's friends who have expectations about dating, such as who constitutes an acceptable date and how to balance friendship and dating. We explore the place of friends in dating conflicts (i.e., conflicts and violence associated with heterosexual teen dating) and ask: (a) How are friends implicated in teen dating/violence not only as targets or confidants, but also as participants in conflict that stems from their…
