  • Hindustani raga and singer classification using 2D and 3D pose estimation from video recordings

    Open Access•Michelle Clayton, J Li et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of New Music Research•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 29

Using pose estimation with video recordings, we apply an action recognition machine learning algorithm to demonstrate the use of the movement information to classify singers and the ragas (melodic modes) they perform. Movement information is derived from a specially recorded video dataset of solo Hindustani (North Indian) raga recordings by three professional singers each performing the same nine ragas, a smaller duo dataset (one singer with tabl…

  • Parent Education for Responding to and Supporting Youth with Suicidal Thoughts (Persyst): An Evaluation of an Online Gatekeeper Training Program with Australian Parents

Open Access•Samuel Mckay, Sadhbh J Byrne et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The gatekeeper training of parents is a promising approach for suicide prevention in young people, but little research has addressed the effectiveness of such training, especially using online delivery. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and acceptability of the delivery of an online suicide prevention training program, LivingWorks Start, to improve the capacity of parents to support young people at risk of suicide. The participants were 1…

  • Theories of Material Agency and Practice: A Guide to Collecting Urban Material Culture

    Open Access•Alison Clarke•ARTICLE•Museum Anthropology•2014•Cited by: 2•References: 24

In understanding the objects of urban life, social scientists formerly emphasized formal phases of acquisition; mechanisms such as advertising, retailing, and marketing placed at the forefront of their theorization. The lived trajectories of material culture have taken on a new prescience for museology as contemporary anthropological discourse and everyday urban practice increasingly acknowledge the embeddedness of "things." Highlighting examples…

  • Born to a Changing World: Childbirth in Nineteenth-Century New Zealand

    Alison Clarke•BOOK•Born to a changing world•2012

Emerging from diaries, letters and memoirs, the ‘voices’ of this history tell of new life amidst a turbulent world. Tracing Māori and Pākehā experience, the narrative is centred on mothers, their babies and families: this is their history

  • Heavenly Visions: Otago Colonists' Concepts of the Afterlife

    Open Access•Alison Clarke•ARTICLE•Journal of Religious History•2006•Cited by: 1

This paper explores popular beliefs about heaven and hell in the largely Presbyterian colony of Otago, New Zealand, during the second half of the nineteenth century. The heresy trials of two prominent clerics resulted, in large part, from the questioning of traditional doctrines on hell, particularly as they related to the fate of dead infants. Although fierce debate surrounded these trials, the diaries, letters, and headstones of Otago residents…

  • Days of Heaven on Earth”: Presbyterian Communion Seasons in Nineteenth–Century Otago

    Open Access•Alison Clarke•ARTICLE•Journal of Religious History•2002•Cited by: 1

Communion seasons were a distinctive and important part of nineteenth–century Presbyterian culture. This paper examines such occasions in the Presbyterian–dominated colony of Otago, New Zealand. Communion was a significant social event, and its preparatory fast days were holidays for the whole community. As a spiritual event, the communion season induced an experiential and emotive piety, belying common modern perceptions of nineteenth–century Pr…

  • Je m'y connais peut-être en art mais je ne sais pas ce que j'aime

    Open Access•Alison J Clarke, Alison Clarke et al.•ARTICLE•Terrain•1999•Cited by: 2•References: 7
