Acoustic and perceptual profiles of american english social affective expressions

The Role of the Auditory and Visual Modalities in the Perceptual Identification of Brazilian Portuguese Statements and Echo Questions
This paper presents the results of three perceptual experiments investigating the role of auditory and visual channels for the identification of statements and echo questions in Brazilian Portuguese. Ten Brazilian speakers (five male) were video-recorded (frontal view of the face) while they produced a sentence (" Como você sabe"), either as a statement (meaning " As you know.") or as an echo question (meaning " As you know?"). Apagamento do R Final no Dialeto Carioca
This paper deals with the weakening process of the phoneme R in final coda position, in Rio de Janeiro dialect. Following labovian quantitative approach, three sets of data are compared, in order to present a case-study in apparent time and real time, through a panel and a trend study. It is shown that final R deletion follows age grading pattern and cannot be considered a change in progress
