Our findings highlight the need to design more inclusive vaccine campaigns during evolving public health emergencies that consider how the intersection of stigma, characteristics, practices, and circumstances might lead to exclusion and inhibit vaccine uptake. Our persona approach further highlights the need to consider whether shared barriers to engagement (which can span multiple identities and positionalities) require tailored solutions. Guide…
The possible forms of professionalism
This article constitutes the first account of sexual minority barristers’ experience of and relation to professionalism at the Bar. Drawing on survey and interview data, it presents the Bar as a site of heteronormativity, where masculinist heterosexuality is pervasively assumed and publicly valorized. The ‘credible’ barrister – authoritative, respected, competent – is constructed as heterosexual. In this context, sexual minority barristers risk a…
A cost-minimizing approach to eliminating the primary sources of greenhouse gas emissions at institutions of higher education

The emergence of COVID-19 precipitated varied responses from public health officials in London, England. In April 2020, clinicians at 56 Dean Street sexual health and advice clinic in central London described social isolation as 'a unique window of opportunity' to 'break the chain' in HIV transmission. This was followed by critical responses within HIV prevention circles. Drawing from these responses, this article examines the implications of the…

Conservation, Exploitation, and Cultural Change in the Indian Forest Service, 1875–1927
Although the Indian Forest Service was founded on conservationist principles, by the twentieth century it had become almost exclusively devoted to profitable exploitation of the forests it managed. Quantitative content analysis of the service’s primary voice, The Indian Forester, correlates the transition from conservation to extraction to shifts from the dominance of generalists to that of bureaucratic specialists, and from ad-hoc holism to redu…
The Rivers Come
This essay traces the development of the physical and cultural infrastructure of colonial flood control in the Indus valley. Reconstructing investigations into the causes of a series of floods illustrates the conflict between the idiosyncratic, local knowledge-based, approach of generalists and the reductionist, technological mentality of engineers. Repeated attempts to protect towns from the Indus River illustrate the growing dominance during th…
Art in Digital Times
The author's approach to selecting digital art encompasses four major themes. The first relates to reprocessing information and the use of sampling as a means of representing the culturescape we inhabit. The second involves the emergence of interactive environments and installations. New forms of storytelling frame the third view and the final theme relates to bridging the categorical gaps, as demonstrated in computer generated multimedia work
