  • On the dynamics of intersectional (in)visibility

    Open Access•Mabel Torbor, David Sarpong et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2026•References: 90

How do women negotiate and express authenticity in professional contexts where their presence and identities are largely rendered (in)visible? We draw on intersectional invisibility as our conceptual lens to explore how women early career researchers subjectively negotiate authenticity given prevailing conditions of visibility, invisibility and hypervisibility at work. Based on semi-structured interviews with recipients of the Organisation for Wo…

  • Ethics and the Future of Meaningful Work

    Open Access•Evgenia I Lysova, Jennifer Tosti-Kharas et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business Ethics•2023

The world of work over the past 3 years has been characterized by a great reset due to the COVID-19 pandemic, giving an even more central role to scholarly discussions of ethics and the future of work. Such discussions have the potential to inform whether, when, and which work is viewed and experienced as meaningful. Yet, thus far, debates concerning ethics, meaningful work, and the future of work have largely pursued separate trajectories. Not o…

  • What enables us to better experience our work as meaningful? The importance of awareness and the social context

    Open Access•Evgenia I Lysova, Luke Fletcher et al.•ARTICLE•Human Relations•2023•Cited by: 9•References: 67

Why does becoming more aware of yourself and your wider work environment enable you to experience greater meaningful work? Drawing upon mindfulness-to-meaning and interpersonal sensemaking theories, we argue that in a state of awareness individuals are cognitively flexible and are able to interpret relevant interpersonal cues in ways that enable them to experience their work as meaningful. Study 1 is a quantitative diary study over a period of si…

  • The Meaning, Antecedents and Outcomes of Employee Engagement

Open Access•Catherine Bailey, Adrian Madden et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017

The claim that high levels of engagement can enhance organizational performance and individual well‐being has not previously been tested through a systematic review of the evidence. To bring coherence to the diffuse body of literature on engagement, the authors conducted a systematic synthesis of narrative evidence involving 214 studies focused on the meaning, antecedents and outcomes of engagement. The authors identified six distinct conceptuali…

  • The Collapse of the Western World

    Luke Fletcher•ARTICLE•Diplomatic History•2016

This article examines the thoughts and plans of Dean Acheson and Paul Nitze that led them to the development of NSC 68, the National Security Council document of 1950 that called for rearmament of Europe and solidified the Cold War. It argues that neither the post-1952 European dollar shortage nor the danger of a land invasion of Western Europe were as important to the NSC 68/rearmament decision as the more immediate fear that Germany and/or othe…

  • Debt-for-development exchanges in Australia

    Luke Fletcher, Adele Webb•ARTICLE•Development in Practice•2012•References: 1

Debt-for-development exchanges are one technique through which to address the ongoing debt crisis in the less-developed world. This paper discusses how Australia's first debt-for-development exchange, with Indonesia, came into being, and explores future possibilities for Australian debt exchanges. It is an interesting example of how activists and advocates can successfully pursue innovative public policy solutions to development problems. More im…
