  • Recentring Postdigital Education in the Pacific Through a Critical–Ecological Lens

Open Access•Sangeeta Nath Prasad, Cheryl Brown et al.•ARTICLE•Postdigital Science and Education•2026

Digital education in Pacific Island Countries (PICs) has been influenced by structures, policies, and funding from the Minority World. However, these promised opportunities fail to account for a context of diversity and culture in PICs contributing to unsustainable educational practices. Drawing from a study on the sustainability of Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL), this paper examines case studies from an urban and a rural Fijian primary schoo…

  • Dissolving the Dichotomies Between Online and Campus-Based Teaching

Open Access•Alison Mackenzie, Alexander Bacalja et al.•ARTICLE•Postdigital Science and Education•2022

This article is a collective response to the 2020 iteration of The Manifesto for Teaching Online . Originally published in 2011 as 20 simple but provocative statements, the aim was, and continues to be, to critically challenge the normalization of education as techno-corporate enterprise and the failure to properly account for digital methods in teaching in Higher Education. The 2020 Manifesto continues in the same critically provocative fashion,…

  • Who wins? Lessons on the use of innovation prizes to achieve social change for the benefit of the very poorest

Christopher Paul Barnett, Chris Barnett et al.•ARTICLE•Development in Practice•2022•References: 1

Prize giving has grown exponentially, with agencies like the World Bank and USAID using them to help solve critical development challenges in low-income countries. This paper draws on findings from a DFID programme that has been experimenting with a suite of global prizes, including in Ghana, Kenya and Nepal. The paper reflects on prizes used to deliver social change: where they work, why, and for whom. We find that development impact can be enha…

  • A step towards improving workflow practices for volume crime investigations

Cheryl Brown, Cheryl M Brown et al.•ARTICLE•Police Practice and Research•2018

The provision of forensic science services in volume crime investigations works most successfully as a partnership between police agencies and external forensic laboratories as opposed to a client/provider model where unlimited demand ignores finite resources. The principles of Lean Six Sigma have been applied in various laboratories to improve workflow through identification of wasteful work practices. These strategies are aimed at process optim…

Open Access•Dorothy Kyagaba Sebbowa, Dick Ng’ambi et al.•ARTICLE•Critical Studies in Teaching and…•2015•References: 3

This paper argues that history education is becoming dangerously obsolete, as it does not always relate to the contemporary needs of 21st century learners, who often find history useless and irrelevant to their present situation. This challenge is attributed to, among other reasons, the way history is taught through largely lecture-driven pedagogies that significantly reduced active learner engagement. This article draws on Gadamer's Hermeneutic …
