    Open Access•Luzi Shi, Sishi Wu•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2027

Across many immigrant destination countries, recent immigration law enforcement has expanded in scope and salience, intensifying public debate over deportation, criminal punishment, and the treatment of immigrants in the criminal legal system. • Guiding Cases and the Death Penalty in the Chinese Mainland

Open Access•Moulin Xiong, Sishi Wu et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Contemporary Criminal…•2026

China is reportedly the country that carries out the most executions worldwide, yet the lack of reliable data hinders the understanding of capital punishment in the Chinese Mainland. We then examined whether support persisted after the initial treatment had failed. Results showed str…

  • Measuring State-Level Death Penalty Opinion

    Open Access•Sishi Wu, David Mcdowall•ARTICLE•Crime & Delinquency•2025

This study compares two approaches to estimating state-level death penalty opinion. One of these, survey pooling, is relatively simple, and the other, multilevel regression and post-stratification (MRP) is considerably more involved. Using General Social Survey (GSS) geocoded data, we estimate state-level support for the death penalty using survey pooling and MRP. The estimates are then compared with available probability-based state-level polls.…

  • Does Bail Reform Increase Crime in New York State

    Open Access•Sishi Wu, David Mcdowall•ARTICLE•Justice Quarterly•2024

In 2019, New York State passed bail reform legislation that limited the use of money bail and expanded pretrial release. The bail reform law took effect on January 1, 2020. We evaluated the effect of this law on crime rates in New York State. Interrupted time series analyses (ITSA) were used to examine whether the bail reform was significantly associated with a crime increase. When a significant association was detected, we examined whether this …
