    Open Access•Magda Wieckowska-Lüth, Magda Wieckowska‐lüth et al.•ARTICLE•Praehistorische Zeitschrift•2026

Palynological, macroremain, and sedimentological analyses of a well-dated, high-resolution sediment profile from the Körbecker Bruch have enabled a detailed reconstruction of the land-use history in a fertile loess landscape during the Younger and the Late Neolithic. The results indicate that already around 4700 cal. BCE, agriculture, animal husbandry, and slash-and-burn techniques, as elements of the subsistence economy, had significantly shaped…

International aid charities face a dilemma by virtue of the White Saviour: Appeal photos of Caucasian helpers in Global South settings can build a bridge to donors or cause donor resentment with changing social norms. We examine four resulting empirical questions using a series of online studies: What is the White Saviour? How do White Saviour perceptions arise from charitable appeals? And what is their effect on both donation intentions and beha…

  • Is there a Spirit of Overseas Chinese Capitalism

Open Access•Swee‐Hoon Chuah, Swee Hoon Chuah et al.•ARTICLE•Small Business Economics•2016

The economic miracle of the Chinese Diaspora in Southeast Asia has been attributed to their unique economic culture forged from Confucian thought and the emigration experience. However, this Spirit of Overseas Chinese Capitalism (SOCC) hypothesis, based largely on qualitative research, has not been validated through quantitative work. This paper provides, for the first time, empirical evidence from a values survey and experiment which show that o…
