  • Famished Frugivores or Choosy Consumers

    Open Access•Andrea L DiGiorgio, Yaxiong Ma et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023•References: 56

  • Seeing the invisible

Open Access•Yaxiong Ma, Jessica Wright et al.•ARTICLE•Cities•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 40

Urban ecosystems consist of infrastructure features working together to provide services for inhabitants. Infrastructure functions akin to an ecosystem, having dynamic relationships and interdependencies. However, with age, urban infrastructure can deteriorate and stop functioning. Additional pressures on infrastructure include urbanizing populations and a changing climate that exposes vulnerabilities. To manage the urban infrastructure ecosystem…

  • Characterizing the Spatial Determinants and Prevention of Malaria in Kenya

Open Access•Sucharita Gopal, Yaxiong Ma et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

The United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 3 is to ensure health and well-being for all at all ages with a specific target to end malaria by 2030. Aligned with this goal, the primary objective of this study is to determine the effectiveness of utilizing local spatial variations to uncover the statistical relationships between malaria incidence rate and environmental and behavioral factors across the counties of Kenya. Two data sources are u…

  • Artificial Neural Networks in Geospatial Analysis

    Open Access•Sucharita Gopal•CHAPTER•International Encyclopedia of…•2016

Artificial neural networks are computational models widely used in geospatial analysis for data classification, change detection, clustering, function approximation, and forecasting or prediction. There are many types of neural networks based on learning paradigm and network architectures. Their use is expected to grow with increasing availability of massive data from remote sensing and mobile platforms.

  • Pasture conversion and competitive cattle rents in the Amazon

Open Access•Mary Lee Mann, Robert K Kaufmann et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2014

  • Measuring community integration using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and participatory mapping for people who were once homeless

    Open Access•Dara V Chan, Christine A Helfrich et al.•ARTICLE•Health & Place•2014•Cited by: 13•References: 10

Measures of community integration rely on self-report assessments that often quantify physical or social participation, but fail to capture the individual׳s spatial presence in the community. The current study documents the activity space, or area of daily experiences, of 37 individuals who were once homeless through participatory mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Contrary to expectations, there was no significant relationship bet…

  • Accessibility patterns and community integration among previously homeless adults

    Open Access•Dara V Chan, Sucharita Gopal et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2014•Cited by: 14•References: 45

  • The economics of cropland conversion in Amazonia

Open Access•Mary Lee Mann, Michael L Mann et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2010

  • Global land cover mapping from Modis

    Open Access•M A Friedl, D K McIver et al.•ARTICLE•Remote Sensing of Environment•2002

  • The Role of Attention in Spatial Learning during Simulated Route Navigation

    Open Access•W S Albert, William Albert et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1999•References: 21

Previous research has demonstrated the importance of attention in the development of survey (or configurai) knowledge of the environment. However, it is unclear if attention is also necessary for the development of route knowledge. Our aim in this paper is to evaluate the specific role of attention in the acquisition of both route and survey knowledge during simulated navigation. In four experiments, subjects in a condition of full or divided att…

  • Gender-related differences in spatial abilities

    Open Access•Carole M Self, Sucharita Gopal et al.•ARTICLE•Progress in Human Geography•1992•Cited by: 9•References: 19

  • Human Way-Finding in an Urban Environment

Open Access•Sucharita Gopal, Gopal et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1990•References: 23

In this paper the characteristics and performance are described of a computational process model (CPM) of human way-finding that is based on psychological models of cognition and experimental data on human way-finding. The model comprises two modules, one for representing objectively a suburban environment and the other for representing the cognitive processes involved in navigation. The CPM is employed to simulate and investigate how spatial kno…
