  • Less effort for extra benefit? Evaluating the impact of conservation agriculture on resource saving and returns across regions and farming systems in Zambia

Open Access•Clifton Makate, Gerard Cornelissen et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Economics•2025

  • Knowledge of Nairobi East District Community Health Workers concerning HIV-related orofacial lesions and other common oral lesions

    Open Access•Lucina N Koyio, Wil J M van der Sanden et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

CHWs need training for building competence in promoting oral health among general and HIV patients in their communities and in early identification and management of non-HIV oral lesions

  • Uncovering the origin of ambiguity in nature-inclusive flood infrastructure projects

Open Access•Ronald E van den Hoek, Ronald van den Hoek et al.•ARTICLE•Conservation Ecology•2014

    Van den Hoek, R. E., M. Brugnach, J. P. M. Mulder, and A. Y. Hoekstra. 2014. Uncovering the origin of ambiguity in nature-inclusive flood infrastructure projects. Ecology and Society 19(2): 51. https://doi.org/10.5751/ES-06416-190251

  • Analysing the cascades of uncertainty in flood defence projects: How “not knowing enough” is related to “knowing differently”

Open Access•Ronald E van den Hoek, Ronald van den Hoek et al.•ARTICLE•Global Environmental Change•2013•Cited by: 7•References: 5

  • Untreated severe dental decay: A neglected determinant of low Body Mass Index in 12-year-old Filipino children

Open Access•Habib Benzian, Bella Monse et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2011

This is the first-ever representative survey showing a significant association between caries and BMI and particularly between odontogenic infections and below normal BMI. An expanded model of hypothesised associations is presented that includes progressed forms of dental decay as a significant, yet largely neglected determinant of poor child development

  • Using adaptation tipping points to prepare for climate change and sea level rise: A case study in the Netherlands

    Open Access•Jaap Kwadijk, Marjolijn Haasnoot et al.•ARTICLE•Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews…•2010•Cited by: 24•References: 5

Studies on the impact of climate change and sea level rise usually take climate scenarios as their starting point. To support long‐term water management planning in the Netherlands, we carried out a study that started at the opposite end of the effect chain. In the study we refer to three aspects of water management, flood defense, drinking water supply, and protection of the Rotterdam Harbour. We examined whether, and for how long, current water…

  • Effect of Climate Change on Flux of N and C: Air-Land-Freshwater-Marine Links: Synthesis

Arne O Stuanes, Heleen A de Wit et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2008

Projected climate change might increase the deposition of nitrogen by about 10% to seminatural ecosystems in southern Norway. At Storgama, increased precipitation in the growing season increased the fluxes of total organic carbon (TOC) and total organic nitrogen (TON) in proportion to the water flux. In winter, soil temperatures near 0°C, common under a snowpack, induced higher runoff of inorganic nitrogen (N) and lower runoff of TOC. By contrast…

  • Manipulation of Snow in Small Headwater Catchments at Storgama, Norway: Effects on Leaching of Total Organic Carbon and Total Organic Nitrogen

Kari Austnes, Øyvind Kaste et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2008•Cited by: 1•References: 3

Projected increases in winter temperature due to future climate change may cause decreased snow accumulation at lower and intermediate altitudes in northern temperate regions. The resulting changes in soil temperature and water regime may affect the leaching of total organic carbon (TOC) and total organic nitrogen (TON). We manipulated the snow cover of small headwater catchments in a montane heathland area of southern Norway to quantify its effe…

  • Manipulation of Precipitation in Small Headwater Catchments at Storgama, Norway: Effects on Leaching of Organic Carbon and Nitrogen Species

Ståle Haaland, Kari Austnes et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2008•References: 1

Projected changes in climate in Southern Norway include increases in summer and autumn precipitation. This may affect leaching of dissolved organic matter (DOM) from soils. Effects of experimentally added extra precipitation (10 mm week) during the growing season of 3 years (2004-2006) to small headwater catchments at Storgama (59 degrees 0'N, 550-600 m a.s.l.) on leaching of total organic carbon (TOC) and total organic nitrogen (TON) were assess…

  • Precision and accuracy in measuring absence from work as a basis for calculating productivity costs in The Netherlands

  • Written and spoken languages as separate semiotic systems

    Open Access•Jan W F Mulder, Jan Mulder•ARTICLE•Semiotica•1994•Cited by: 1

L'A. examine les systemes semiotiques des langues orales (systeme phonologique) et des langues ecrites (systeme grammatical) et compare ces deux types de systemes pour l'anglais oral et l'anglais ecrit

  • Optimal Procedures for Estimation of Factor Scores

    Open Access•Willem E Saris, Marius De Pijper et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•1978•Cited by: 3•References: 18

This study identifies three different applications of factor scores which lead to three different sets of criteria for optimal estimation procedures. The regression method and the Bartlett method best satisfy the first two sets of criteria, and a generalized Anderson and Rubin procedure is optimal for the third set of criteria. The differences between the methods have been illustrated by an example
