Temperature Effects on People's Subjective Well-Being and Their Subjective Adaptation
Valuing Acute Health Risks of Air Pollution in the Jinchuan Mining Area, China
This paper analyzes the choice of illness-cure combinations to estimate people's willingness to pay (WTP) for the reduction of acute health risks correlated with air pollution caused by mining and smelting in the Jinchuan mining area, China. To improve explaining the power of choice experiment (CE), a random parameter logit model (RPL) was employed and extended by considering rank ordered choice sets and non-linear effects of health risk percepti…
Perceived health risk, environmental knowledge, and contingent valuation for improving air quality
Mechanisms Underlying Action of Xinmailong Injection, a Traditional Chinese Medicine in Cardiac Function Improvement
Background: As a bioactive composite extracted from American cockroach, Xinmailong injection (XML) is used for the treatment of congestive heart failure (CHF) in China. Clinical data has provided evidence that XML has positive inotropic properties. The objective of this study was to assess the mechanisms involved in the therapeutical effect of XML on CHF. Materials and Methods: The effects of XML on the cardiac function in isolated rat heart were…
Perception of Air Pollution in the Jinchuan Mining Area, China
Studies on the perception of air pollution in China are very limited. The aim of this paper is to help to fill this gap by analyzing a cross-sectional dataset of 759 residents of the Jinchuan mining area, Gansu Province, China. The estimations suggest that perception of air pollution is two-dimensional. The first dimension is the perceived intensity of air pollution and the second is the perceived hazardousness of the pollutants. Both dimensions …
To what extent does air pollution affect happiness? The case of the Jinchuan mining area, China
