Assessing Risk among Frail Older Adults in Ontario, Canada, during the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Mixed Methods Evaluation of a Telephone Outreach Program
We developed a pandemic telephone outreach protocol to identify risk for social isolation, health destabilization, medication issues, inadequate services and supports, and caregiver stress among older adults at high risk of destabilization. Screening, conducted between April 1, 2020, and May 8, 2020, was targeted to those who had previously been screened as frail or who were identified as vulnerable by their family physician. This study describes…
The relationship between household structures and everyday adaptation and livelihood strategies in northwestern Pakistan
The interactions between household size, capital, and adaptation to social-ecological change has been widely studied; however, little is known about the differences in everyday adaptation to social-ecological change across household structures. Joint family households are increasing in contexts where the nuclear family had previously been the norm, and remains a prevalent structure throughout the world. Thus, it is important to understand how the…
Evaluation of a Diabetes Prevention Intervention for Korean American immigrants at Risk for Diabetes
Purpose: Despite the small but growing number of studies documenting the increasing prevalence of diabetes among Korean Americans, no culturally adapted interventions have been developed for Korean Americans at risk for diabetes. We evaluate the efficacy of a culturally tailored lifestyle intervention among Korean American immigrants at risk for diabetes in New York City (NYC). Methods: Korean Americans at risk for diabetes were recruited into a …
Social influence shapes adaptive water governance: Empirical evidence from northwestern Pakistan
Social-ecological change has placed unprecedented stress on water resources throughout the world. This has driven water users to employ a diverse range of adaptation strategies and necessitates new governance structures, such as adaptive water governance (AWG), which have the capacity to manage resources in the midst of uncertainty and complexity. As such, AWG has the potential to support household adaptation strategies; however, little empirical…
Specialist and family physician collaboration: Insights from primary care‐based memory clinics
Given limited available geriatric specialists and complexity of dementia care, there is a need for greater collaboration between primary care and specialists to better meet the needs of persons with dementia. Meaningful family physician-specialist collaboration has the potential to improve health outcomes, timely access to care and more appropriate healthcare resource utilisation. Primary Care Collaborative Memory Clinics (PCCMCs), which include …
Partnerships for improving dementia care in primary care: Extending access to primary care‐based memory clinics in Ontario, Canada
In Ontario, Canada, the Primary Care Collaborative Memory Clinic (PCCMC) model of dementia care provides a team-based assessment and management service that has demonstrated increased capacity for dementia care at the primary care level. PCCMCs are established following completion of a multi-faceted memory clinic training programme. Evidence of the success of this care model has been demonstrated primarily in practice settings with integrated int…

Classroom dimensions predict early peer interaction when children are diverse in ethnicity, race, and home language
Entering a New Peer Group in Ethnically and Linguistically Diverse Childcare Classrooms
This short‐term longitudinal study examined changes over time in social competence with peers as a function of child and classroom characteristics. One hundred and seventy ethnically diverse low‐income children, all new to their peer groups, entered childcare classrooms with heterogeneous entry policies and ethnic/racial compositions. We observed them with their teachers and peers at entry and again six months later. Observers rated aggressive, a…

Defining the Benefits, Outputs, and Knowledge Elements of Program Evaluation
The Canadian Evaluation Society (CES) has undertaken a project to explore the benefits that can be attributed to program evaluation, the outputs necessary to achieve those benefits, and the knowledge and skills needed to produce the outputs. Benefits, outputs, and knowledge elements were articulated and confirmed through a number of consultations with CES members and the international evaluation community. The consultation process was also succes…

Pictorial Superiority during Verbal Learning Tasks in Moderate to Severe Closed Head Injury: Additional Evidence
Evidence for picture superiority in verbal learning following moderate to severe closed head injury (CHI) was found in a study involving 31 participants with CHI and 31 noninjured participants. A multitrial free-recall paradigm was implemented incorporating three modalities: Auditory, visual, and simultaneous auditory plus visual. Participants with moderate to severe CHI learned fewer words and at a slower rate than the noninjured participants. T…
