In this article on School Police Officers (SPOs), we showcase the link between SPOs and exacerbated racial disparities in justice involvement and youth being driven deeper into criminal justice systems. Yet SPOs have been linked with increased arrests for non-criminal, youthful behavior, fueling the school-to-prison pipeline. This growth has come largely at the expense of the African-American community, which has been economically and politically marginalized as a result. Felony disenfranchisement, the loss of voting rights as the result of a felony conviction, exacer…

Results indicate that prisons have had no substantive or statistically significant impact on host counties. Policy Implications: In the last decades …

  • The coverage of ethics in research methods textbooks

Michael J McSkimming, BRION SEVER et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Criminal Justice…•2000

Ethics is one of the most important topics in criminal justice and criminological research, yet it is also one of the most neglected. Indeed, it is common for professors to merely gloss over ethical issues at the end of their research methods classes, or to exclude them completely. The present study attempts to determine if such disregard for ethics carries over into the coverage found in criminal justice research methods textbooks. Eleven resear…
