  • Internationalizing cluster organizations on market terms

Open Access•Roger R Stough, Mads Bruun Ingstrup et al.•ARTICLE•European Planning Studies•2026

Cluster organizations strengthen the dynamism and performance of clusters. However, internationalization of these organizations remains largely neglected, with existing research failing to clarify how they can internationalize without substantial policy support. To address this knowledge gap, we explore the emergence of an international network of ocean cluster organizations that has developed on market terms, meaning without public involvement a…

  • Paradoxes and dilemmas in local climate missions

    Roger R Stough, Steffen Korsgaard et al.•ARTICLE•Regional Studies•2025•References: 3

This paper examines local climate missions using paradox theory. We explore how the fundamental paradoxical nature of missions manifests in dilemmas with which mission managers must strategically engage. By studying two local climate missions in Denmark, we identified three dilemmas, their triggers and the mission management’s strategic responses. Importantly, we found that mission resources and place-based leadership are essential in shaping str…

  • Big Data and U . S . Public Policy

    Open Access•Roger R Stough, Dennis K McBride•ARTICLE•Review of Policy Research•2014

This paper examines the growing recognition of the phenomenon called “Big Data” and the policy implications it poses. It is argued that a core policy issue is personal and organizational privacy. At the same time there is a belief that analysis of “Big Data” offers potentially to provide public sector policy makers with extensive new information that would inform policy at unprecedentedly detailed levels. Despite this potential to improve the pol…

  • Do Microfinance Programmes Really Serve the Poor? Evidence from Rural Southeast Nepal

Open Access•Hari Bansha Dulal, Chris D Gingrich et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of South Asian Development•2008•References: 6

During the past 25 years development organisations worldwide have increasingly relied on microfinance programmes to help alleviate poverty and achieve various development objectives. These programmes typically aim to provide financial services to poor households that otherwise cannot access formal financial markets. One such example programme is the Grameen Bikas Bank (GBB) in rural southeast Nepal. While GBB targets poor households, the evidence…

After reviewing changes in housing policy and the impact of U.S. metropolitan decentralization on jobs and the demand for transportation, the authors examine the role of the new high-technology economy in urbanization. Specifically, they suggest that the patterns of public and private metropolitan infrastructure investments continue to support decentralized expansion. Using the Washington, D.C., region as an example, they explore the increased se…

  • Territorial cognition

Robert B Taylor, Ralph B Taylor et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1978•Cited by: 7

The empirical validity of Altman's typology of human territories was assessed using a modified Kelly Rep Grid procedure. Urban and suburban subjects, matched on several variables, were interviewed in their homes. It was expected that suburban subjects, as compared to urban subjects, would perceive more control over secondary and public territories. Results confirmed the validity of Altman's typology and the importance of the dimensions of central…
