Building a core rule-based decision tree to explain the causes of insolvency in small and medium-sized enterprises more easily
This study proposes a harmonic average of support and confidence method (HSC), which is a new way to select important rules from the many rules in the decision tree and thereby build a core rule-based decision tree (CorDT) that more easily explains the insolvency factors related to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) using the HSC. To this end, an insolvency prediction model for SMEs was developed using a decision tree algorithm and technol…

Intermediary organizations as supporters of residents’ innovativeness and empowerment in community-based tourism
Despite the importance of intermediary organizations in promoting community-based tourism, little is known about how different types of social support from intermediary organizations assist residents' capacity building, such as their innovativeness or empowerment. To address this research gap, this study collected survey responses from 353 South Korean residents participating in a government-supported community-based tourism initiative and examin…
The influence of social support from intermediary organizations on innovativeness and subjective happiness in community-based tourism

The authors collected data from 236 residents who had participated in the Tour Dure project in South Korea. The analysis, using partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), shows that social support from intermediary organizations has a positive effect on the innovativenes…
The bi‐directional relationship between place attachment and emotional solidarity in a rural destination: A two‐way approach
Despite the evidence suggesting emotional solidarity as an antecedent of placement attachment, tourism research has maintained the monolithic view where place attachment antecedes emotional solidarity. To challenge the conventional view, survey data from rural tourists in South Korea were collected and analyzed. Stepwise regression analysis results confirmed that the two constructs were bi‐directionally related and the model assuming emotional so…
Resident reactions to a pandemic: The impact on community-based tourism from social representation perspective

Furthermore, this paper uses Q methodology to shed light on residents' reactions to COVID-19. A demonstration of this method is used to analyze a Q set of 36 statements and …
Prediction of Recurrence of Completely Resected Pancreatic Solid Pseudopapillary Neoplasms in Pediatric Patients: A Single Center Analysis
During our single center analysis, we found that only lymph node metastasis was a predictive factor for recurrence of SPNs among patients who underwent complete tumor resection. Long-term follow-up is required to determine whether SPNs will recur if lymph node metastasis is observed after surgery. Furthermore, therapeutic benefits of routine lymphadenectomy or sentinel lymph node biopsy should be investigated in future studies to reduce the risk …
Factors Associated with Failure of Pneumatic Reduction in Children with Ileocolic Intussusception
Intussusception is one of the most common causes of intestinal obstruction in children. Pneumatic reduction is the treatment of choice and has a high success rate. The most common cause of pneumatic reduction failure is the presence of a pathological leading point. We aimed to identify other factors that can lead to pneumatic reduction failure in children with ileocolic intussusception. This was a retrospective study conducted in two centers. Dat…
Metabolic Activity of Visceral Adipose Tissue Is Associated with Metastatic Status of Lymph Nodes in Endometrial Cancer: A 18F-FDG PET/CT Study

Asymmetry in the fly-paper effect of the national subsidy in Korea
Nowadays, Korean central government has concentrated increasing attention on welfare policy. Welfare payment which is delivered by local government relies on the national subsidy. The national subsidy, however, is a kind of conditional grants which is needed to match some financial resource of local governments. For this reason, the fiscal conditions of local governments may become worse off, as the amount of national subsidy increases. This phen…
Social capital and health at the country level

L’analyse est ici centrée sur les pratiques des étudiants universitaires coréens via des entretiens se résumant en trois grandes parties. Premièrement, leur utilisation d…
The Role and Strategy for a Community Association of Co-Operatives as a Secondary Organization: The Case of the Guro Community Association of Co-Operatives in Korea
In 2012, the ‘Framework Act on Cooperatives’ was legislated and about 7,500 co-operatives have been newly established in Korea. However, most of them are small, less competitive, and less skilled in management. In addition, they have difficulties in obtaining financial and management support from other organizations due to the lack of general awareness about co-operatives in Korea. To assist these co-operatives, secondary self-formed organization…
In situ phytoplankton distributions in the Amundsen Sea Polynya measured by autonomous gliders
The Amundsen Sea Polynya is characterized by large phytoplankton blooms, which makes this region disproportionately important relative to its size for the biogeochemistry of the Southern Ocean. In situ data on phytoplankton are limited, which is problematic given recent reports of sustained change in the Amundsen Sea. During two field expeditions to the Amundsen Sea during austral summer 2010–2011 and 2014, we collected physical and bio-optical d…
Particle flux on the continental shelf in the Amundsen Sea Polynya and Western Antarctic Peninsula
We report results from a yearlong, moored sediment trap in the Amundsen Sea Polynya (ASP), the first such time series in this remote and productive ecosystem. Results are compared to a long-term (1992–2013) time series from the western Antarctic Peninsula (WAP). The ASP trap was deployed from December 2010 to December 2011 at 350 m depth. We observed two brief, but high flux events, peaking at 8 and 5 mmol C m−2 d−1 in January and December 2011, …

Dynamic Inconsistency in Counterterrorism
Repeated interaction between a terrorist group and a target government is analyzed in a game-theoretic model. The analysis identifies a dynamic inconsistency problem, which forces the government to under-invest in defensive measures while over-investing in offensive measures. Policy implications are discussed in light of recent US counterterrorism experience. It is shown that governments may resolve the problem by delegating the authority over de…
