Understanding the Link Between Policy Design and Distributional Impacts of Local Wind Energy Ordinances
Zoning is one of the most widely used land use regulations in the U.S. An increasing number of local governments have adopted zoning ordinances to regulate renewable energy projects. However, there has been very limited research on the impact of this local regulatory tool. To address this research gap, this study examines the policy design features of local wind energy ordinances, and how they influence the siting of wind projects. We compile and…
Serving the public or checking boxes? Exploring motivations for overcompliance in policy implementation
A study on the mechanism of intrinsic motivation and performance state in deliberate practice of piano based on information entropy
Exploration of scientific connotation of “Yin-Jing” medical properties of Cyathula officinalis via potentiating therapeutic effect, guidance and targetability
Powering fairness in climate adaptation capabilities
Assisting households with maintaining adequate energy supply is one method for improving overall quality of life. Households experiencing energy insecurity may be unable to afford to use energy for necessary services at home (e.g., unable to purchase air conditioners). Energy efficiency (EE) can reduce energy costs for low-income households–requiring less energy for essential activities. While existing research has identified the groups that are …
Feasibility, Acceptability, and Preliminary Efficacy of the Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Adolescents in China
Currently, there is a lack of cost-effective and accessible intervention resources for Chinese adolescents with emotional disorders. The Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Adolescents (UP-A), which aims to apply transdiagnostic treatment principles to target core dysfunctions across a range of emotional disorders with a single protocol, could fill this gap. We first modified the UP-A for use in the Chinese cu…
Unveiling and explaining the procedural justice in the policy design of renewable energy siting process in the United States
Social justice is a fundamental value in public policy, but empirically examining this intricate concept remains a persistent challenge. Recent studies have made early attempts to examine how policy design choices consider distributive justice but have overlooked how procedural justice considerations have been integrated into policy designs. Drawing on policy design and participatory governance literature, this study develops a procedural justice…
Revealing the “Yin-Jing” mystery veil of Platycodon grandiflorum by potentiating therapeutic effects and lung-oriented guidance property
Operationalizing social equity in public policy design
While it is widely recognized that energy injustices are prevalent in the clean energy transition process, there has been limited research attention on policy efforts aiming to mitigate these inequities. In this paper, we use solar equity policies as an empirical case study to understand how social equity considerations are conceptualized and operationalized in energy policy content. We build upon the policy design literature and code institution…
Hard to say goodbye
The politics of international finance for coal power plants have intensified since the 2015 Paris climate agreement was negotiated. Over the past few years, Japan and South Korea have signaled their intent not to fund new coal projects overseas, leaving China and its Belt and Road Initiative as the ‘financier of last resort.’ In September 2021, China too announced its intent to stop providing finance for overseas coal projects. What accounts for …
Insomnia and sleep duration on Covid-19 susceptibility and hospitalization
Background Sleep disturbance including insomnia and sleep duration is associated with an increased risk of infectious. With the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, it is important to explore potential causal associations of sleep disturbance on COVID-19 susceptibility and hospitalization. Method Insomnia and sleep duration were selected as exposure. Outcomes included susceptibility and hospitalization for COVID-19. Two sample me…

Association between nutrient patterns and hyperuricemia
Our findings suggest that the direct effect of diet on hyperuricemia is weak, and obesity plays a critical mediating role in the relationship between diet and hyperuricemia, which confirms that a weight-loss diet such as a "Low fat and high vitamin diet" may be useful in preventing hyperuricemia
Examine the nexus between covid-19 and tourism
The novel Covid-19 outbreak has adversely affected every sector of the economy, including the tourism and hospitality sectors. Holding the importance as one of the leading contributors to economic growth, and accommodating a large percentage of the labor force, this study has investigated the impact of Covid-19 on the tourism economy of Beijing (the capital of China), which is one of the leading tourist destinations of China. For this purpose, pr…
To what extent does Covid-19 drive stock market volatility? A comparison between the U.S. and China
This paper presents a novel wavelet-based quantile-on-quantile method for comparing the impact of COVID-19 on stock market volatility between the U.S. and China. Wavelet decomposition shows that the impact has stronger regularity in the lower frequency domain. Compared with oil price fluctuations, COVID-19 is the main reason for the sharp fluctuation of the U.S. stock market. Unlike China, however, the strong growth of daily new cases, which cont…
Valuing tourists’ willingness to pay for conserving the non-use values of marine tourism resources
The conservation of marine tourism resources based on the public’s preference for non-use values is important to the sustainable development of marine tourism. The objectives of this article are to explore the willingness to pay (WTP) for the non-use values of marine tourism resources and how such WTP differs among types of marine tourism resources in China. A contingent valuation study was undertaken at three archipelagic tourism destinations: t…

The Challenges of Coal Phaseout
Global coal use must be phased out if we are to minimize temperature increases associated with climate change. Most new coal plants are being built in the Asia Pacific and rely on overseas finance, with Indonesia and Vietnam the leading recipients. However, the politics of coal plant finance are changing, with many projects cancelled in recent years. This article explores the factors that led to coal plant cancellations in Vietnam and Indonesia. …

Adolescents' perspectives on the psychological effects of natural disasters in China and Nepal
Adolescents are disproportionately represented in nations vulnerable to humanitarian crises. The mental health effects of exposure to trauma are significant, but evidence concerning the experience of disaster-affected adolescents in Asia is limited. The current study aimed to investigate expressions of psychological distress and behavioral effects of exposure to natural disasters among adolescents in China and Nepal. Key informant interviews and …
Tracking Changes of Chinese Pre-Service Teachers’ Aerobic Fitness, Body Mass Index, and Grade Point Average Over 4-years of College
Although increasing attention has been given to student academic achievement, usually measured by grade point average (GPA), and fitness in children and adolescents, much fewer studies have been conducted in higher education settings, especially in China. This study investigated the longitudinal associations of aerobic fitness (AF), body mass index (BMI), and GPA in Chinese pre-service teachers at a university. A longitudinal research design was …
