Trends in height and weight among children between 2003–04 and 2023–24 in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China
Among Hong Kong children aged 612 years, secular gains in height were evident over the full period from 2003-04 to 2023-24, but these gains occurred mainly before 2015-16. Body weight increased in earlier survey waves but declined in the most recent period, resulting in no significant net change across the full study period. More policies and interventions are needed to promote childrens growth and development.
Urban railway logistics node location based on the set covering problem and heuristic algorithm
At present, China's total demand for railway construction at home and abroad is at a historically high level. Under the huge construction demand, it is particularly important to reduce the logistics and transportation costs in railway construction. This study aims to reduce the construction cost of logistics bases during railway construction. On the basis of drawing on industry site selection experience and principles, combined with the idea of t…
The Concurrent and Longitudinal Contributions of Linguistic and Cognitive Skills to L2 Writing Quality
Research on second language (L2) writing has primarily focused on linguistic skills, with limited attention to higher-order cognitive skills such as inference making. This study expands prior research by examining both concurrent and longitudinal effects of linguistic skills (vocabulary, grammatical knowledge, and morphological awareness) and inference making on L2 English writing quality among 135 Chinese high school English learners. Students’ …

An Optimization Method for the Land-Use Index in a Site Area: Improving the BP Neural Network Model Based on a Genetic Algorithm
The land-use layout in the core area of a station under the transit-oriented development (TOD) model plays a crucial role in shaping urban development. Although many rail transit stations have been constructed, most do not exhibit the intensive, economical, efficient, and orderly land-use characteristics typical of TOD stations. The traditional backpropagation (BP) neural network model offers significant advantages in addressing the nonlinear asp…
Remote sensing monitoring of glacier changes and analysis of climate response on the northern slope of the Western Himalayas from 1990 to 2024
The glaciers on northern slope of the Western Himalayas play an irreplaceable role in maintaining water resource balance in northwestern South Asia, regulating river runoff stability, and providing ecological barrier functions. Under the context of global warming, the accelerated melting of glaciers in this region exhibits significant differences from those in the Eastern and Central Himalayas and has led to hydrological reorganization and disast…
Lag Effects in L2 Phonetic Training: Longer Intersession Intervals Compensate for Auditory Individual Differences
In cognitive psychology, longer intersession intervals are thought to enhance long‐term retention (i.e., lag effects). Recently, scholars have begun to test the generalizability of the lag effect to L2 vocabulary and grammar acquisition. Following their step, the present study not only replicated the lag effect but also provided a more fine‐grained insight into L2 phonetic acquisition, investigating how individual differences at both perceptual (…
Subject Copies at the Intersection of Syntax, Discourse and PF: The Uyghur case
This paper investigates the paradox of subject positioning in Uyghur, where subjects appear low on the surface but behave as if they occupy a higher position. I argue that this mismatch arises from the interaction between syntactic movement and PF realization. In narrow syntax, subjects indeed raise to the highest TP position; however, different copies are pronounced at PF to satisfy discourse-related prosodic requirements. For subject focus, the…
Epidemic-Behavior Coevolutionary Vaccination Game Dynamics Under Prospect Theory
Many studies assume that individuals are perfectly rational or only update vaccination strategies at the end of each transmission season, without considering differences in individual perceptions and behaviors. This article proposes a novel coevolutionary model that integrates subjective perceptions with social interactions, where individuals update vaccination strategies within the same transmission season. The coevolutionary model effectively c…
A Scalable Multichannel Sentiment Analysis Model With Enhanced Semantic Understanding and Redundancy Reduction
The prevailing techniques in textual sentiment analysis include convolutional neural networks (CNNs), bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) networks, and attention mechanisms. However, the existing sentiment analysis methods typically focus on relationships among neighboring words, neglecting long-range dependencies. Moreover, they fail to reduce redundant information in semantic features, ultimately affecting the effectiveness of sentime…

Theft Address Extraction and Classification from Chinese Judicial Documents Based on Large Language Model
Judicial documents have become a significant data source for crime geography research, offering advantages in accessibility and scale compared to highly restricted police-recorded crime data. However, extracting crime addresses from these texts is challenging due to sparse, inconsistent, and incomplete address information. Without proper classification, errors in geocoding and spatial analysis can arise, compromising data quality. To address thes…

The hidden cost of digital aggression: How engaging in cyberbullying facilitates moral disengagement among children through changes in normative beliefs about aggression
Cyberbullying is an increasingly common public health issue worldwide, with serious implications for the development of children and young people. However, most existing studies have treated normative beliefs about aggression (NOBAGs) and moral disengagement (MD) solely as causes of cyberbullying, while few have examined whether the same cyberbullying behaviors may conversely influence the development of NOBAGs and MD. In this study, a cross-lagg…

In this study, 28 participants with little geographical knowledge of the destination were asked to plan a week-long trip to China online. The participants were asked to create a detailed seven-day itinerary outline with activities or attractions they would like to participate in or visit, as well as restaurants in which they would like to dine. The participants were given a computer with internet access to conduct an online search to complete thi…
Market Correlation and Property Rights
This paper examines the origins of property rights in the presence of production uncertainty. Since stealing others' possessions is permitted under anarchy, the winner is able to enjoy the lion's share of total outputs produced by all parties, and this generates a diversification effect, since the random outputs are polled together. Taking this effect into account, we characterize the subgame-perfect equilibrium for our two-stage game. Specifical…

Towards an Integrative Model of Loyalty Formation: The Role of Quality and Value
Researchers have noted the utility of the Investment Model in explaining the formation of loyalty. This study extends the Investment Model in a leisure service context by including two additional constructs of quality and value. Quality and value are proposed as antecedents of satisfaction, with their effects on loyalty mediated by satisfaction. Results from an online panel survey of American cruise passengers support these hypotheses. The study …
Revisiting the Commitment-Loyalty Distinction in a Cruising Context
This paper attempts to revisit the commitment-loyalty relationship by conceptually and empirically examining the differences (and similarities) between the two constructs. A review of the extant literature suggests that the key issue regarding this relationship is whether we can equate commitment with the attitudinal dimension of loyalty. In a cruise travelers' study, the relationships of the two constructs were examined in terms of their loading…

A Reformulated Directional Bias of Tourist Flow
Conventional directional bias is unable to identify the interactions and relationships between emitted tourist flows and attracted tourist flows, while arguably contradicting the actual emitting/attracting functions for any region, especially in systematic analysis. A newly coined FTR (Functional Tourism Region) based on a regional perspective and a new directional bias derived from conceptual, geographical and technical contexts are proposed. Th…
Are East Asian tourists more apprehensive about food risks
The expectation that ‘food risk abroad is higher than at home’ was explored in domestic and international tourists in China. Food risks at home were lowest, risks for ‘the trip you are on now’ second lowest, and risks abroad highest, an effect that we label the ‘home is safer than abroad heuristic’. Absolute levels of food risks were higher in the present sample compared to earlier European samples. Chinese domestic respondents scored higher on r…
