AIPsychoBench: Understanding the Psychometric Differences Between LLMs and Humans
Large Language Models (LLMs) with hundreds of billions of parameters have exhibited human‐like intelligence by learning from vast amounts of internet‐scale data. However, the uninterpretability of large‐scale neural networks raises concerns about the reliability of LLM. Studies have attempted to assess the psychometric properties of LLMs by borrowing concepts from human psychology to enhance their interpretability, but they fail to account for th…
Genetic and epidemiological analyses of alcohol consumption patterns and age-related macular degeneration risk among current drinkers: A role for TNFRSF10A
Background: Alcohol intake, a major modifiable lifestyle factor, has been variably associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). We aim to investigate the association and potential causal relevance of alcohol consumption with AMD risk using complementary epidemiological and genetic approaches. Methods: We used nonlinear Cox proportional hazards models to evaluate incident AMD associations among 440 052 participants of European ancestry …
Meaning transformation and recontextualization: From multimodal courtroom discourse to legal judgments
Legal judgments are the judicial documents issued by courts to adjudicate the parties’ rights and obligations. Court proceedings involve the construction of multidimensional meanings through various semiotic modes. These meanings can be retained, added, or deleted when recontextualized in written judgments based on the court’s perception of reinforced visual elements. This study aims to examine meaning transformations through a social semiotic le…
Study on the needs of the older adults with dementia in care institutions based on a hierarchical interaction model: A case study of an institution in Hangzhou, China
Dementia care is a significant public health challenge, particularly in institutional settings where standardized management often conflicts with individual needs. This research investigates the multifaceted needs of older adults with dementia in a Chinese care institution and the extent to which these needs are met. By constructing a stratified interactive framework for need analysis and employing methods such as field observations, in-depth int…
Tillage With Straw Returning Promotes Soil Functional Microbiomes and Nitrogen Transformation to Increase Cotton Yield
The soil microbial community and its driven nitrogen (N) conversion are the key processes in cotton production. However, the responses of soil microbial communities to changes in farming practices (e.g., tillage and straw returning) remain unknown. This study sampled soil from the 0–20 cm and 20–40 cm layers of cotton fields under no‐tillage (NT), tillage (T), no‐tillage + straw returning (NT + SR), and tillage + straw returning (T + SR) practice…
Unlocking Soil Salinity Prediction With Remote Sensing Indices and Environmental Insights
Despite advances in salinity prediction, a knowledge gap exists in accurately integrating remote sensing indices and environmental factors for effective management strategies. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between soil salinity (EC e ) and remote sensing (RS) indices, soil texture properties, and ecological features. Several statistical techniques, such as Pearson correlation, Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR), Principal …
Subsistence economic changes and their influencing factors in the lower Yangtze river region during 11,000–2,300 BP: Archaeobotanical and Zooarchaeological Evidence
Irrigated Farming Among Mountain Agropastoralists: An Archaeobotanical Investigation at Mohuchahangoukou (Mid-First Millennium AD), Southern Tian Shan Foothills, Xinjiang, China

China’s air quality improvement strategy may already be having a positive effect: Evidence based on health risk assessment
Aiming to investigate the health risk impact of PM 2.5 pollution on a heavily populated province of China. The exposure response function was used to assess the health risk of PM 2.5 pollution. Results shows that the total number of premature deaths and diseases related to PM 2.5 pollution in Shandong might reach 159.8 thousand people based on the new WHO (2021) standards. The health effects of PM 2.5 pollution were more severe in men than in wom…

Can technology demonstration promote rural households’ adoption of conservation tillage in China
Under the uncertainty of conservation tillage on output, technology demonstration, as an information disclosure mechanism, is very worthy of attention for its effects on rural households’ conservation tillage adoption. This study constructs a three-stage technology adoption model to discuss the theoretical relationship between technology demonstration and rural households’ conservation tillage adoption decision, and then empirical analyzed it usi…
The Temporal and Spatial Changes of Health Inequality in Rural China
This article estimates the temporal and spatial changes of health inequality in rural China from 2010 to 2018. Based on a panel database of 29,616 rural residents, the Health Utility Index (HUI) and a spatial econometric model are used for analysis. The results show that, on the temporal dimension, the health inequality of rural China first expands and then deflates. On the spatial dimension, the health inequality gradually deflates from eastern …
Life cycle water footprint assessment of concrete production in Northwest China
Concrete requires a large amount of water throughout the product life cycle. This study constructs a comprehensive evaluation model of the life cycle water footprint (LCWF) of concrete production. It calculates the LCWF of concrete in Northwest China. The main conclusions are: (1) The vast water consumption of the concrete industry is closely related to VWF, which is the focus of LCWF assessment. The first three significant factors are WF of Coar…
The use of semiotic resources in traffic policing: An exploration of genre structure and exchanges in traffic accident handling in China
In China, the increasing traffic pressure has created traffic policing problems such as the heavy workloads of traffic police, as well as more conflicts between traffic police and road users. The treatment of traffic policing as a semiotic practice provides both a new perspective in and a helpful approach to dealing with these problems, yet few studies have investigated how semiotic resources are used in traffic policing interactions. This articl…
The Effect of Health on Labour Supply of Rural Elderly People in China—An Empirical Analysis Using CHARLS Data
In China, due to decades of the 'one-child policy' and continuous rural-urban labour migration, real population aging in rural areas is increasing more quickly than in urban areas, and the labour inputs in agricultural production are becoming ever more dependent on the elderly. Using CHARLS data, we examine the effect of health on the labour supply of rural elderly people. We construct a latent health stock index (LHSI) to eliminate measurement b…
Experimental Study on the Effects of Vegetation on the Dissipation of Supersaturated Total Dissolved Gas in Flowing Water
High dam discharge can lead to total dissolved gas (TDG) supersaturation in the downstream river, and fish in the TDG-supersaturated flow can suffer from bubble disease and even die. Consequently, it is of great value to study the transport and dissipation characteristics of supersaturated dissolved gas for the protection of river fish. Floodplains may form downstream of high dams due to flood discharge, and the plants on these floodplains can af…
How disputes are reconciled in a Chinese courtroom setting: From an appraisal perspective
Disputes and conflicts affect interpersonal relationships. The key factors in resolution are what attitudes people take and what kinds of reconciliation people choose. The paper examines the language of judges from the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics, specifically Appraisal System. It presents a case study that is a civil one brought to court in Tahe County in China. The case concerns the conflict and dispute between a chicken rais…
Holocene environmental change and Neolithic rice agriculture in the lower Yangtze region of China: A review
In this paper, we summarize the Holocene environmental history of the lower Yangtze region, east China, based on the sedimentary records and microfossil diatom, pollen, fungal and charcoal data that were published in the past two decades. We then examine the linkage between changes in the coastal environment and the development of rice agriculture in the region, with reference to the available archaeological evidence and historical archives. Base…
Environmental change and Neolithic settlement movement in the lower Yangtze wetlands of China
Previous studies have suggested that, over the course of the Neolithic period, settlements in the Yangtze coastal plain gradually moved seawards and concentrated to the east of Lake Taihu, probably responding to the effects of sea-level change during the middle to late Holocene. To test this hypothesis, sediment cores adjacent to six Neolithic settlement sites across the study area were collected and analyzed for pollen and other microfossils. Th…
