  • Assessment policy of post-traumatic stress disorder in aviation and its practical application using turbulence-triggered trauma as an example

Open Access•Alpo Vuorio, Robert Bor et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently provided detailed instructions on how Aviation Medical Examiners (AMEs) should assess and evaluate pilots for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The European, Australian and International Civil Aviation Organization guidelines for the assessment of PTSD in aviation are general guidelines and do not address the unique and specific circumstances of a flight crew per se . The starting point…

Open Access•Tasanee Braithwaite, Blaine Winford et al.•ARTICLE•Health Policy and Planning•2018•References: 22

Avoidable blindness is an important global public health concern. This study aimed to assess Trinidad and Tobago's progress towards achieving the Pan American Health Organization, 'Strategic Framework for Vision 2020: The Right to Sight-Caribbean Region,' indicators through comprehensive review of the eyecare system, in order to facilitate health system priority setting. • Preferred reporting items for studies mapping onto preference-based outcome measures

Open Access•Stavros Petrou, Oliver Rivero-Arias et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2015

It is anticipated that the MAPS statement will improve the clarity, transparency and completeness of reporting of mapping studies. To facilitate dissemination and uptake, the MAPS statement is being co-published by seven health economics and quality of life journals, and broader endorsement is encouraged. The MAPS working group plans to assess the need for an update of the reporting checklist in 5 years' time

  • Operationalising the capability approach for outcome measurement in mental health research

    Open Access•Judit Simon, Paul Anand et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2013•Cited by: 31•References: 28

  • Mapping analyses to estimate EQ-5D utilities and responses based on Oxford Knee Score

Open Access•Helen Dakin, Ann Marie Gray et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2012

The resulting response mapping algorithm can be used to predict EQ-5D utilities and responses from OKS responses. Response mapping appears to perform particularly well in large datasets

  • Could targeted food taxes improve health

    O T Mytton, Oliver Mytton et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2007•Cited by: 17•References: 19

Objective: To examine the effects on nutrition, health and expenditure of extending value added tax (VAT) to a wider range of foods in the UK. Method: A model based on consumption data and elasticity values was constructed to predict the effects of extending VAT to certain categories of food. The resulting changes in demand, expenditure, nutrition and health were estimated. Three different tax regimens were examined: (1) taxing the principal sour…

  • The Economics of Clinical Negligence Reform in England

Open Access•Paul Fenn, Ann Marie Gray et al.•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2004•Cited by: 1•References: 11

In Britain, the NHS spends millions of pounds a year compensating patients injured during medical treatment. Compensation is paid if the patient can demonstrate that treatment was supplied negligently. However, concern over the cost, effectiveness and administrative efficiency of this approach has led jurisdictions like Sweden, New Zealand and some US states to alter the basis for compensation, and the Department of Health has now published propo…

  • Trading contacts in the Bismarck Archipelago during the whaling era, 1799–1884

    Alastair Gray, Alastair C Gray•ARTICLE•Journal of Pacific History•1999•Cited by: 2•References: 5

Judicious use of whaling logs provides rich insight into the history of the Bismarck Archipelago. During the whaling era 1799–1884 there were three whaling grounds and four common anchorages in the region, which had a profound impact on the nature of contact and trade with islanders. Trading contact was predominantly at sea. The logs provide details of exact items traded, whalers for subsistence, islanders for iron. Only surpluses were exchanged.…

  • Evaluation of Index and Profile Measures of Health Status in a Randomized Controlled Trial

Crispin Jenkinson, Ann Marie Gray et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•1997•References: 21

OBJECTIVES: The authors compare two generic measures of health status with disease-specific measures in a randomized controlled trial of transurethral resection of the prostate with laser vaporization prostatectomy for benign prostatic hypertrophy. METHODS: Patients entered into the trial completed the following questionnaires prior to treatment and at follow-up at 3 months and 1 year. The Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (…
