De profesor de la Universidad Nacional de la Plata a primer Rector de la Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia
El trabajo explora la trayectoria de Silvio Grattoni, primer rector de la Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia (UNP), inaugurada en 1974. Pawpaws, Persimmons, and 'Possums
The northern distribution of the pawpaw ( Asimina triloba) is reviewed in terms of the likelihood that Iroquois populations were directly responsible for its extension into southern Ontario and western New York, a proposition advanced by Keener and Kuhns (1997). Their argument is flawed by ignoring or misrepresenting other probable means of dispersal and by coloring or selecting evidence to strengthen their case. It is concluded that natural disp…
A Most Respectable Prejudice - Boudon
More than a few commentators over the years have come to regard the 'friction of minds', ' the 'clash of perspectives'2 or as Popper once put it 'the friendly-hostile debate of scientists'3 as an important, if not infallible check on research which is one-sided, short-sighted or just plain bad. Professor Cohen's commentary4 on my critique of educational research and policy,5 stands full square within this honourable if, sadly, no longer fashionab…
Over‐educated and under‐employed
Over the past decade, educational policy in Britain, as in other industrial nations, has been increasingly driven by the concern that higher education should serve the needs of the economy more effectively. The report Highly Qualified People: supply and demand reflects this concern and attempts to establish from employers Britain's likely requirement, in the 1990s, for such expensively educated labour. Though the report concluded that Britain nee…
A Most Respectable Prejudice
Disparity and Inequality in Education
It is argued that underwriting much contemporary educational research is a parochial fascination with education, which cannot handle educational difference, indifference, or dissent except as in some sense pathological and aberrant. Detectable in the analogies, assumptions and arguments of the educational researcher, it is argued that this fascination with education reaches its acme in the so‐called ‘radical’ definition of educational equality, w…
An Archeological History of the Hocking Valley
The Hocking River stretches 95 miles south eastward from Columbus to the Ohio River, draining an area of 1,200 square miles. In this detailed study of the archeological investigations in the Hocking Valley, James L. Murphy summarizes and re-evaluates explorations in the light of current knowledge. He discusses the prehistory of the Hocking Valley for six major time periods: Paleo-Indian, Archaic, Early Woodland, Middle Woodland, Late Woodland, an…

Introductory Econometrics
Provenience of Seven Reed Stem Pipes from Fort Union, New Mexico
Excavation and collecting at a Mogadore, Ohio dump used by the Akron Smoking Pipe Co. and at the site of the Peterson & Co. pipe plant, Point Pleasant, Ohio has provided provenience data on seven reed stem tobacco pipes from Fort Union, New Mexico. Those manufactured at Point Pleasant are believed to be older (1860–1890) than those manufactured at Mogadore, Ohio (1880–1895)
