  • Deambulações Geográficas Pela Literatura De Cordel Em Portugal

    Open Access•Francisco Ferreira•ARTICLE•Revista Épicas•2024

Literatura de Cordel (Chapbooks), more than a genre, is a form of circulation among the people of various literary genres, of oral tradition or not. The aim is to analyze, in the Portuguese case, the geographical distribution of publishing locations, themes, and references to its circulation. The catalogs of the National Museum of Archaeology and the collection of Arnaldo Saraiva will be used as examples. We will try to find areas of occurrence a…

  • Association between elite swimmers' force production and 100 m front crawl inter-lap pacing and kinematics

    Open Access•Mário J Costa, Catarina C Santos et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 32

The present study aimed to analyse the associations between force production and 100 m front crawl inter-lap pacing and kinematics. Eleven elite male swimmers performed a 100 m front crawl maximal effort to collect 50 m lap time (T50, s) and velocity (v, m·s−1) for pacing, stroke rate (SR), stroke length (SL) and stroke index (SI) as kinematic variables. A 30 s tethered effort allowed to determine the peak (Fpeak) and mean force (Fmean) as force …

  • Statistical Forecast of Pollution Episodes in Macao during National Holiday and Covid-19

    Open Access•Thomas M T Lei, Joana Monjardino et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Statistical methods such as multiple linear regression (MLR) and classification and regression tree (CART) analysis were used to build prediction models for the levels of pollutant concentrations in Macao using meteorological and air quality historical data to three periods: (i) from 2013 to 2016, (ii) from 2015 to 2018, and (iii) from 2013 to 2018. The variables retained by the models were identical for nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 ), particulate matt…

  • Opportunity-Sensitive Poverty Measurement

Open Access•Paolo Brunori, Francisco Ferreira et al.•BOOK•2013

This paper offers an axiomatic characterization of two classes of poverty measures that are sensitive to inequality of opportunity, one a strict subset of the other. The proposed indices are sensitive not only to income shortfalls from the poverty line, but also to differences in the opportunities faced by people with different predetermined characteristics, such as race or family background. Dominance conditions are established for each class of…

  • Setting national emission ceilings for air pollutants

    Open Access•Andrew Kelly, Julio Lumbreras et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Science & Policy•2009•Cited by: 4•References: 1

  • Inequality in Latin America

David De Ferranti, Guillermo Perry et al.•BOOK•Inequality in Latin America•2004

With the exception of Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean has been one of the regions of the world with the greatest inequality. This report explores why the region suffers from such persistent inequality, identifies how it hampers development, and suggests ways to achieve greater equity in the distribution of wealth, incomes and opportunities. The study draws on data from 20 countries based on household surveys covering 3.6 milli…

  • Inequality of Outcomes and Inequality of Opportunities in Brazil

Bourguignon Bourguignon, Francisco H G Ferreira et al.•BOOK•World Bank policy research…•2003

The authors depart from John Roemer's theory of equality of opportunities. They seek to determine what part of observed outcome inequality may be attributed to differences in observed "circumstances," including family background, and what part is due to "personal efforts." The authors use a microeconometric technique to simulate what the distribution of outcomes would look like if circumstances were the same for everybody. They apply this techniq…
