Differences in Skill Requirements Between Jobs Held by Immigrant and Native Women Across Five European Destinations

The Puzzling Effects of Delaying Schooling on Canadian Wages
We compare the returns on education for graduates of postsecondary institutions who delayed their tertiary education for some time and those who proceeded with no delays. Using a unique survey that collects information on a representative cohort of graduates, we are able to estimate the effects of delaying school among successful graduates abstracting from specific macroeconomic conditions at the time of graduation. This article examines the fertility of women who migrated as children to one of three OECD countries-Canada, the United Kingdom, and France-and how it differs from that of native-born women, by age at migration. Signalling, Inequality and the Social Structure
This paper proposes a theory of endogenous transmission of social status through signalling in the labour market. A signalling game is analysed, in which education, acting as a signalling good, determines one's position in society. The economy's degree of inequality is shown to be a determinant of whether a society is ‘aristocratic’, where high income is the source of social standing, or ‘meritocratic’, bestowing status on high ability.
