  • Emotional healing as part of environmental and climate justice processes

    Open Access•Marien González‐hidalgo, Marien González-Hidalgo et al.•ARTICLE•Political Geography•2022•Cited by: 10•References: 41

This paper seeks to discuss the political role of healing practices in the context of climate and environmental justice struggles. We rely on literature and practices that have identified healing as a means for liberation from structural oppression and physical and symbolic violence, to humans, non-humans and nature – namely emotional political ecologies, transformative and healing justice and communitarian feminism. We also briefly discuss the e…

  • Seeing the Quiet Politics in Unquiet Woods

    Open Access•Seema Arora-Jonsson, Carol J P Colfer et al.•ARTICLE•Human Ecology•2021

We address two aspects of forest lives—violence and care—that are central to forest outcomes but often invisible in mainstream discussions on forests. We argue that questions of violence and care work in forests open up debates about what forests are, who defines them, and how. We draw primarily on feminist work on forestry, violence, and care to examine the gendered nature of forest conflicts and the ‘quiet politics’ of resistance to violence gr…

    Marien González‐hidalgo, Marien González-Hidalgo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Latin American geography•2019•Cited by: 3•References: 10

  • Emotions, power, and environmental conflict

    Open Access•Marien González‐hidalgo, Marien González-Hidalgo et al.•ARTICLE•Progress in Human Geography•2019•Cited by: 87•References: 50

Building on the framework of emotional political ecology, we seek to expand ways of studying the relationships between emotion, power, and environmental conflict. Our review of work in feminist studies, human geography, social psychology, social movement theory, and social and cultural anthropology suggests the need for a theoretical framework that captures the psychological, more-than-human, collective, geographical, and personal-political dimen…

  • How sovereignty claims and "negative" emotions influence the process of subject-making

    Open Access•Marien González‐hidalgo, Marien González-Hidalgo et al.•ARTICLE•Geoforum•2016•Cited by: 40•References: 29

  • Seeing beyond the Smoke

    Open Access•Marien González‐hidalgo, Marien González-Hidalgo et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•2014•Cited by: 7•References: 27

Fires shed light. We revisit a tragic fire which occurred in southern Catalonia in 2009 to uncover tensions and frictions in the ways in which modern societies appreciate and reorganise their relations to nature, by looking at forests and fires in particular. Using a broadly defined political ecology approach, we identify four major contemporary collective discourses and associated visions that underpin humanity's material relations to nature. Ou…
