Design of Longeviti (LIVinG with chrONIc cancEr Therapies): A Narrative Arts-Based Study of Living with Advanced Cancers Treated with Targeted Therapy
Today, cancer treatments and the resultant illness experience is rapidly changing. In the early 2000's breakthroughs in cancer biology and technology allowed the detection of molecular tumor characteristics promoting cancer growth, metastasis and cell immortality. These discoveries prompted the development of oral drugs specifically designed to block these targets. These oral targeted medications are 'cytostatic' as the disease remains in 'stasis…
Political participation and social engagement at girls’ and coeducational high schools: A comparative study
Using multi-level modeling and lenses of gender socialization and gendered organizations, we investigated the role of U.S. girls’ high schools in adolescent political participation and social engagement, characterized by voting interest, volunteerism, and interactions with diverse communities among other variables, with a focus on the role of all girls’ schooling. Results demonstrate benefits for graduates of girls’ schools in community-orientati…
Power couples, cities, and wages
Power couples, defined as pairs of highly educated partners, tend to cluster in cities to take advantage of more developed labor markets, better jobs, and higher wages. This research examines to what extent being a partner in a power couple brings additional wage income benefits. We examine what the effects of power couple partnering is on wage income. Furthermore, we examine how the results are affected by gender and place of residence. To deter…
The effect of media multitasking on ad memory: The moderating role of program-induced engagement and brand familiarity
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of program-induced engagement on the amount of media multitasking (MM) and its subsequent impact on ad memory. It explored how brand familiarity attenuates or aggravates the detrimental effects of MM on cognitive evaluation of ads. Two lab-based experiments were conducted. The findings of the experiment were three-fold. First, the findings indicate that when the programs were affectively eng…
Housing costs, self‐employment, and fertility
The decline in fertility across advanced nations is a well‐known fact. Becker famously argued that declining rates of childbirth were the by‐product of higher levels of economic development and human capital. Recently, it has been suggested that two additional factors might lead to declining rates of childbirth—the higher housing costs of expensive cities and the change in the nature of work and employment from more regular and secure full‐time w…

Later-Life Migrations in Canada in 2001: A Multilevel Approach
Return immigration: The chronic migration of Canadian immigrants, 1991, 1996 and 2001
Recognizing that immigration is not a one‐time event, the international migration literature has acknowledged return emigration as one option. Typically, international return migrations are evaluated as returns to a country of birth, although they may also involve returns to the host country following a brief sojourn or period outside. However, this form of ‘return’ immigration has received limited attention. Using data drawn from the 1991, 1996 …
Onward Emigration to the United States by Canadian Immigrants between 1995 and 2000
Using data drawn from the 2000 US and the 2001 Canadian Censuses, this paper analyzes the onward emigration of Canadian immigrants to the US between 1995 and 2000. The characteristics of an estimated 48,336 Canadian immigrants who made an onward emigration from Canada to the United States are examined. This paper also seeks to determine whether onward foreign-born emigrants are representative of immigrants in Canada and Canadian-born emigrants to…
For the Children, Perfect Instruction: Studies in Honor of Hans-Martin Schenke on the Occasion of the Berliner Arbeitskreis für koptisch-gnostische Schriften’s Thirtieth Year
Prof. Dr. Hans-Martin Schenke, internationally renowned New Testament scholar and pioneer researcher in Gnosticism as it became brilliantly illuminated by the publication of the Nag Hammadi Codices, organized a small group of students and colleagues in “East Berlin” in the early 1970s to investigate the difficult new primary sources from the “Coptic Gnostic Library” discovered in Upper Egypt in 1945. This group, the “Berliner Arbeitskreis für Kop…
Resident Support for Local Growth Management Strategies in Albuquerque, New Mexico
The issue of growth management in urban settings has captured the attention of concerned groups for the past several decades. The voice that is sometimes lacking is that of the residents of neighborhoods who are inevitably affected by the economic and political decisions made by others on how and where growth should occur, but whose recommendations are often ignored or overturned. In an attempt to determine resident satisfaction with the growth m…
Death penalty attitudes and juror decisions in australia
Although Australia does not currently have a death penalty law, an increasing concern about violent crime has raised the possibility that capital punishment, abolished in the 1960s, may be reconsidered. To determine the death penalty attitudes and potential jury behaviour of younger Australians, who have grown up without capital punishment, an experiment was conducted with 166 Australians, aged 18 to 30 years. Jurors who professed anti-(29%) or p…
