  • The Phylogenetic Moment-A New Diversity Measure, with Procedures for Measurement and Optimisation

    Open Access•M E T Horn, Mark Horn et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1996•Cited by: 1•References: 14

The measurement of diversity in biological systems is an increasingly important requirement in environmental planning at regional, national, and even international levels. Phylogenetic diversity indicates the biological variety present in a set of species by reference to the phylogenetic relationships amongst the species. A new diversity measure is proposed which for a given group indicates how well a given set of extant taxa represent the group …

  • Grid Cell Representation of Soil Maps

    Open Access•P A Walker, Paul Walker et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Geographical Studies•1986•References: 3

The paper describes a continental scale grid cell data set containing soil descriptions. The accuracy of these descriptions and how they change as a result of grid cell aggregation are described

  • Estimating proximate populations for an extensive set of locations in Australia

    K D Cocks, P A Walker et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Geographer•1985•Cited by: 1•References: 4

The paper reports the use of Australian Resources Information System to calculate two proximate populations (people living within (i) 150 and (ii) 500 km) for the centroids of each of 3,000 half by half degree geodetic grid cells covering Australia. The use of proximate population data is exemplified by computing a map of the eighteen regions collectively containing a maximum fraction of the Australian population." The data used are from the 1981…
