Locality under the deepening reach of the state
The regeneration of dilapidated industrial sites in urban China is challenged by the participation of a variety of actors with the state deepening its reach into such projects to impose control and facilitate industrial upgrade. However, there is relatively scant knowledge about the interactions between the localised actor dynamics and the far-reaching state. To address this knowledge gap, this paper leverages understanding the state as a process…

Buzz-and-pipeline’ dynamics in Chinese science
Drawing on the ‘buzz-and-pipeline’ framework, this paper examines the impact of intra- and interregional collaboration linkages on the innovation capacity of cities, as evidenced by the co-publication networks existing among 217 Chinese cities located in 20 city-regions. The results show that (1) intra- and interregional linkages have an inverted ‘U’-shaped and positive relationship with innovation capacity, respectively; (2) the positive effects…
Interurban scientific collaboration networks across Chinese city-regions

Analysis of Informal Urban Settlement Upgrading
Informal settlements constitute a major part of the urban landscape of most cities in Zambia. There have been myriad of development interventions undertaken to manage the informal settlement challenge in the country, with city administrators reviewing the approach to informal urban settlement upgrading in an attempt to control them. Developing regularisation strategies is complicated by the complex dynamics which are specific to individual inform…
The cost-effectiveness analysis of drug therapy versus surgery for symptomatic adenoid hypertrophy by a Markov model
Surgery is cost-effective in the simulations for both China and the USA at WTP thresholds of $9633.1 and $62,517.5, respectively
Interaction between different forms of proximity in inter‐organizational scientific collaboration
Comparing the physical, functional and knowledge integration of the Yangtze River Delta city-region through the lens of inter-city networks
