  • Psychological factors influencing successful music learning using deep learning technologies

Zhibin Xu, Qiang Xu•ARTICLE•Interactive Learning Environments•2024

The purpose of this study is to compare academic results and psychological factors of influence in the context of the use of deep learning technologies. The experiment involved 238 respondents who were divided into two groups – control and experimental. Students were tested for academic self-efficacy and well-being after taking the exam composition. Most of the students in the control group (n = 61) received satisfactory grades, and the index of …

  • Assessing socio-ecological fit of international environmental agreements and trade-embodied carbon flows

    Open Access•Mingbao Chen, Zhibin Xu•ARTICLE•Environmental Impact Assessment…•2024•Cited by: 3•References: 138

Global emissions embodied in trade (EET) constitute approximately one-third of total carbon emissions. Although countries combat environmental impacts via international cooperation, it is unclear whether these social efforts fit the ecological challenges. It is imperative to assess the fit between international environmental agreements (IEAs) and the EET. The article constructed global social-ecological networks during 1995–2021 for 189 countries…

  • Visualising Sustainable Development Goals progress of China’s coastal cities using circular-kaleidoscope charts

    Open Access•Mingbao Chen, Zhibin Xu•ARTICLE•Regional Studies Regional Science•2024•References: 1

Cities are the frontiers of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted in the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Although quantitative methods have been applied to assess cities’ sustainability progress, knowledge gaps exist in the differences between inland and coastal cities’ performance and their internal variations against common standards. Using the Voronoi-based kaleidoscope diagram embedded in two circular plots, the article visualises the …

  • Predicting the transmission dynamics of novel coronavirus infection in Shanxi province after the implementation of the “Class B infectious disease Class B management” policy

Open Access•Yifei Ma, Shujun Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Background China managed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with measures against Class B infectious diseases, instead of Class A infectious diseases, in a major shift of its epidemic response policies. We aimed to generate robust information on the transmission dynamics of novel coronavirus infection in Shanxi, a province located in northern China, after the implementation of the “Class B infectious disease Class B management” policy. Methods W…

  • Students’ Psychological State, Creative Development, and Music Appreciation

    Open Access•Zhibin Xu, Qiang Xu•ARTICLE•Journal of Psycholinguistic…•2023•References: 43

  • Kaleidoscope visualisation of China’s internal migration, 1985–2020

    Open Access•Hengyu Gu, Zhibin Xu•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning B Urban…•2022

In migration networks, the origin-destination (OD) bilateral flows and each site’s in- and outflow volumes are like two sides of the same coin; though popular visualisation approaches such as the chord diagram excel in describing the former, the latter mostly remains less depicted aspect. By applying the Voronoi-based migration Kaleidoscope diagram and integrating it with the sunburst treemap, the article visualises China’s interprovincial migrat…

  • Visualising global currents of international students between 1999 and 2018

Open Access•Hengyu Gu, Zhibin Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•2022•References: 7

The flows of international students are like the currents of the oceans, not only affecting the individuals adrift in them but the global circulation of policy, economics and academics as a whole, bearing pros and cons for each country or region along the way. To date, there has not been a detailed and elaborate description of the fluxes of international students over decades. In light of the research gap, the article utilises the chord diagram t…

  • A comparative analysis of physiological and functional effectiveness of speech and music perception among musicians and non-musicians

Zhibin Xu, B Yuan et al.•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Science Reviews•2020

The purpose of the study is to compare at the physiological and functional levels, the effectiveness of speech and music perception among musicians and non-musicians. The study was conducted in 2018 in Ningbo University in Zhejiang Province (China) on 235 students aged 20-21. The results showed that in the experimental group, when perceiving music, symmetrical hemisphere interaction parameters dominate (p ≤ 0.05), in both groups, right-hand param…
