  • Robust Conditional Kurtosis and the Cross-Section of International Stock Returns

Open Access•Ruifeng Liu, Alex Maynard et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2026

We introduce robust kurtosis, which is a new quantile-based measure for the kurtosis of stock returns. For approximately normal distributions, robust kurtosis is equivalent to the traditional moment-based kurtosis. For fat-tailed distributions, when kurtosis matters the most, robust kurtosis provides a distinct and reliable measure. Using a cross-section of international stock index returns, we find that robust kurtosis carries a significant nega…

  • Farmers’ adoption of green prevention and control technology in China

Open Access•Ruifeng Liu, Jian Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2025

Green prevention and control technology (GPCT) represents an eco-friendly approach in agriculture, aimed at promoting sustainability by reducing farmers’ excessive use of chemical pesticides. Despite the Chinese government having made a large effort to promote the technology, the farmers’ utilization is still low in China, especially when no financial incentives are provided to farmers. This study took 642 farmer questionnaires in Hua county, Chi…

  • Natural Disasters and Rehabilitation

Open Access•Muhammad Irshad Ahmad, Qiong Shen et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Development•2025•References: 16

The increasing frequency of natural disasters, such as floods, droughts, and tsunamis, has made vulnerable communities less resilient, pushing them toward long‐term poverty and food insecurity. Effective post‐disaster rehabilitation is critical to restoring livelihoods, infrastructure, and food security. However, challenges such as corruption, misallocation, and mistargeting undermine post‐disaster aid programs. This study systematically reviews …

  • Survey on health literacy and related factors among firefighters of emergency management departments in Southwest China

Open Access•Peijie Jiang, Quanxin Chen et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The health literacy level of firefighters in the Emergency Management Department in Southwest China was 34.3%. Lower levels were found in the health-related skills dimension (HRS, 30.1%) and in infectious disease control (ID, 30.7%). Health information literacy (HI, 34.3%) was lower than the national level. The type of urban and rural areas, literacy level, and household income level may be the factors affecting the level of health literacy among…

  • The Economic Impact of Climate Change on Wheat and Maize Yields in the North China Plain

Open Access•Chunxiao Song, Xiao Huang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Climate change has significantly affected agricultural production. As one of China's most important agricultural production regions, the North China Plain (NCP) is subject to climate change. This paper examines the influence of climate change on the wheat and maize yields at household and village levels, using the multilevel model based on a large panel survey dataset in the NCP. The results show that: (i) Extreme weather events (drought and floo…

  • Carbon Ion Radiotherapy Acts as the Optimal Treatment Strategy for Unresectable Liver Cancer During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Crisis

Open Access•Zheng Li, Qiang Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has greatly disrupted the normal treatment of patients with liver cancer and increased their risk of death. The weight of therapeutic safety was significantly amplified for decision-making to minimize the risk of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Herein, the safety and effectiveness of carbon ion radiotherapy (CIRT) for unresectable liver cancer (ULC) were eval…

  • Carbon Ion Therapy Inhibits Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Metastasis by Upregulating STAT3 Through the JAK2/STAT3 Signaling Pathway

Open Access•Hongtao Luo, Zhen Yang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2020

Radiation therapy is an important component of the comprehensive treatment of esophageal cancer. However, conventional radiation resistance is one of the main reasons for treatment failure. The superiority of heavy ion radiation in physics and biology has been increasingly highlighted in radiation therapy research. The Janus Kinase 2/Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 3 (JAK2/STAT3) pathway plays an important role in the occurrence,…
