  • Atomized community: The role of values in intra-group relationships among highly skilled Chinese migrants in Germany

    Open Access•Xinyue Wu, B Bilecen et al.•ARTICLE•Migration Studies•2026

This study examines how individual values shape intra-group relationships among highly skilled Chinese migrants in Germany. By integrating Schwartz’s value theory with Heinich’s pragmatic approach to valuation, it explores how values formed through authoritarian socialization in China continue to structure migrants’ relational patterns in transnational contexts. Drawing on Arendt’s theorization of atomization and using ‘Confucian appearance with …

Open Access•Xianghui Xing, Hongwei Dai et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2026

As a result, perceived AI substitution risk among workers has become an important issue affecting employment stability and social well-being. • Beyond democratic exposure: A cognitive-motivational-emotional analysis of political disaffection among highly skilled Chinese migrants in Germany

    Open Access•Xinyue Wu, B Bilecen et al.•ARTICLE•Current Sociology•2026•References: 5

This study examines how authoritarian socialisation creates enduring psychological configurations that shape political disaffection among highly skilled Chinese migrants in Germany. Drawing on 62 in-depth interviews, we investigate how individuals who possess significant socioeconomic resources and substantial access to democratic institutions nevertheless exhibit persistent political disaffection. Our analysis reveals that political disaffection…

    Open Access•Xinyue Wu, Mariana Amorim•ARTICLE•Demographic Research•2026•References: 108

BACKGROUNDReturned children relocate to their original hukou locations after migration, often due to systemic barriers.China's hukou system, which assigns rural or urban status, imposes institutional hurdles to those with non-local and rural hukou, resulting in educational exclusion and eventual return.Despite their non-negligible presence, these children remain hard to identify in surveys and overlooked in research on hukou-perpetuated education…

Open Access•Wanyan Geng, Jing Yuan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background Prenatal exposure to meteorological factors and air pollutants may increase preterm birth (PTB) risk, but existing research is limited and inconsistent. Heilongjiang Province is located in Northeast China and is the northernmost and highest latitude province. Yet the association between meteorological factors, air pollutants, and PTB in this region remains unclear. Methods PTB cases were collected between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 202…

  • Evapotranspiration increment was underestimated in China due to underrepresented land cover changes

Open Access•Xinyue Wu, Wangya Han et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2024

Numerous evapotranspiration (ET) products have been produced using various approaches and diverse forcing data even as the magnitude and trends of ET show divergence. We simulated ET using updated land use and cover change (LUCC) data in China from 1900 to 2020. We found that China’s ET increased slightly from 1900 to 1980, but it increased rapidly after 1980 due to LUCC characterized by forest expansion (2.05 mm yr −1 , P < 0.01). We also found …

    Open Access•Xinyue Wu•ARTICLE•The Journal of Chinese Sociology•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 7

Based on ethnographic research conducted in two nursing homes in China, this article examines how institutional eldercare reshapes the expectations and practices of filial piety. It finds that families accept institutional care as a solution to the elderly care deficit. They expect a new division of care between labor and love, assigned to paid care workers and family members, respectively. This ideal of care division is rooted in the "intimate t…

  • What are public development banks and development financing institutions ? ——qualification criteria, stylized facts and development trends

    Open Access•Jiajun Xu, Régis Marodon et al.•ARTICLE•China Economic Quarterly…•2021•Cited by: 6•References: 11

Public development banks and development financing institutions are experiencing renaissance worldwide, but systematic academic research is patchy. The bottleneck mainly boils down to the lack of data, which has constrained the meaningful research on the rationales of establishing PDBs and DFIs and reasons for their successes and failures. To fill the gap, we aim to answer the fundamental question of “what PDBs and DFIs are” by proposing five qua…
